Hello, everyone! Welcome back to Thai Top Words. Iโ€™m Jay and today, we will be doing 10 must know math words. Okay, letโ€™s begin!
1. เธงเธดเธŠเธฒเธ„เธ“เธดเธ•เธจเธฒเธชเธ•เธฃเนŒ (wรญ-chaa khรก-nรญt-dtร -sร at) โ€œmathโ€
Okay, the first word of today is เธงเธดเธŠเธฒเธ„เธ“เธดเธ•เธจเธฒเธชเธ•เธฃเนŒ (wรญ-chaa khรก-nรญt-dtร -sร at) โ€œmathโ€.
เธ‰เธฑเธ™เธŠเธญเธšเธงเธดเธŠเธฒเธ„เธ“เธดเธ•เธจเธฒเธชเธ•เธฃเนŒ (chฤƒn chaฬ‚awp wรญ-chaa khรก-nรญt-dtร -sร at) โ€œI like math.โ€
In the dictionary, if you search on the Thai dictionary, it would say เธงเธดเธŠเธฒเธ„เธ“เธดเธ•เธจเธฒเธชเธ•เธฃเนŒ (wรญ-chaa khรก-nรญt-dtร -sร at) as the pronunciation, but I often hear people say เธงเธดเธŠเธฒเธ„เธ“เธดเธ•เธจเธฒเธชเธ•เธฃเนŒ (wรญ-chaa khรก-nรญt-sร at). I think itโ€™s wrong, but itโ€™s something that people like get used to saying in daily life, you know what I mean? Like in daily life, you can say, เธงเธดเธŠเธฒเธ„เธ“เธดเธ•เธจเธฒเธชเธ•เธฃเนŒ (wรญ-chaa khรก-nรญt--sร at). If you want it to be correct then itโ€™s always เธงเธดเธŠเธฒเธ„เธ“เธดเธ•เธจเธฒเธชเธ•เธฃเนŒ (wรญ-chaa khรก-nรญt-dtร -sร at).
2. เธ•เธฑเธงเน€เธฅเธ‚ (dtuua leek) โ€œnumberโ€
เธ•เธฑเธงเน€เธฅเธ‚เน„เธ—เธขเธ•เนˆเธฒเธ‡เธˆเธฒเธเธ•เธฑเธงเน€เธฅเธ‚เธญเธฒเธฃเธšเธดเธ (dtuua leฬ‚ek thai dtร ang jร ak dtuua leฬ‚ek aa-rรก-bรฌk) โ€œThai numbers are different from Arabic numbers.โ€
I think everyone, every country use like 1, 2, 3, you know, but in Thailand, we have two ways of writing numbers. First is the Arabic number which is the numbers that are very known, and the second way of writing it is Thai numbers. So this Thai number is not as popular as Arabic numbers even though itโ€™s used in Thailand too, but it is often used in formal documents like in school sometimes on the textbook.
3. เธ„เธฃเธถเนˆเธ‡ (khruฬ‚eng) โ€œhalfโ€
เน€เธ‚เธฒเนเธšเนˆเธ‡เธ‚เธ™เธกเนƒเธซเน‰เธ‰เธฑเธ™เธ„เธฃเธถเนˆเธ‡เธ™เธถเธ‡ (khฤƒo bร aeng khร -nลm hรขi chฤƒn khruฬ‚eng nueng) โ€œHe gave half of the snack to me.โ€
Nice.
4. เธฃเน‰เธญเธขเธฅเธฐ (raฬauy lรก) โ€œpercentโ€
เธฃเน‰เธญเธขเธฅเธฐ 50 เธ‚เธญเธ‡เธŠเธฑเน‰เธ™เน€เธฃเธตเธขเธ™เน€เธ›เน‡เธ™เธ™เธฑเธเน€เธฃเธตเธขเธ™เธŠเธฒเธข (raฬauy lรก haฬ‚a siฬ€p khaฬŒawng chรกn riian bpen nรกk riian chaai) โ€œ50% of the class are male students.โ€
If you want to report it to like 50%, you could say เธซเน‰เธฒเธชเธดเธšเน€เธ›เธญเธฃเนŒเน€เธ‹เน‡เธ™เธ•เนŒ (hรขa sรฌp bpooe-sen) or เธฃเน‰เธญเธขเธฅเธฐเธซเน‰เธฒเธชเธดเธš (raฬauy lรก haฬ‚a siฬ€p), but I recommend you to use the word โ€œpercent.โ€ Itโ€™s more popular I would say, to use.
5. เธ„เธนเนˆ (khuฬ‚u) โ€œevenโ€
เน€เธฅเธ‚เธ„เธนเนˆเธซเธฒเธฃเธ”เน‰เธงเธข 2 เธฅเธ‡เธ•เธฑเธง (leฬ‚ek khuฬ‚u hฤƒan dรปuai saฬŒawng long dtuua) โ€œEven numbers can divide by 2.โ€
Right? 2, 4, 6, 8 and it goes on, okay. This word, เธ„เธนเนˆ (khuฬ‚u) or โ€œevenโ€, has another meaning in Thai too. It means โ€œa pairโ€.
6. เธ„เธตเนˆ (khiฬ‚i) โ€œoddโ€
เน€เธฅเธ‚ 3 เน€เธ›เน‡เธ™เน€เธฅเธ‚เธ„เธตเนˆ (leฬ‚ek saฬŒam bpen leฬ‚ek khiฬ‚i) โ€œ3 is an odd number.โ€
7. เธ„เธณเธ™เธงเธ“ (kham-nuuan) โ€œto calculateโ€
เนเธกเนˆเธเธณเธฅเธฑเธ‡เธ„เธณเธ™เธงเธ“เธ„เนˆเธฒเนƒเธŠเน‰เธˆเนˆเธฒเธข (mรขae gam-lang kham-nuuan khรขa chรกi jร ai) โ€œMom is calculating the expenses.โ€
8. เธšเธงเธ (bรนuak) โ€œplusโ€
1 เธšเธงเธ 1 เน€เธ›เน‡เธ™ 2 (nuฬ€eng bรนuak nuฬ€eng bpen saฬŒawng) โ€œ1 plus 1 is 2.โ€
Okay this sentence, actually, I was reciting it so often when I was in private school...1 เธšเธงเธ 1 เน€เธ›เน‡เธ™ 2 (nuฬ€eng bรนuak nuฬ€eng bpen saฬŒawng), 2 เธšเธงเธ 2 เน€เธ›เน‡เธ™ 4 (saฬŒawng bรนuak saฬŒawng bpen siฬ€i), 3 เธšเธงเธ 3 เน€เธ›เน‡เธ™ 6 (saฬŒm bรนuak saฬŒm bpen siฬ€i), โ€œ1 plus 1 is 2.โ€, โ€œ2 plus 2 is 4.โ€, 3 plus 3 is 6.โ€, okay.
9. เธฅเธš (lรณp) โ€œminusโ€
1 เธฅเธš 1 เน€เธ›เน‡เธ™ 0 (nuฬ€eng lรณp nuฬ€eng bpen suฬŒun) โ€œ1 minus 1 is 0.โ€
10. เน€เธ—เนˆเธฒเธเธฑเธš (thรขo gร p) โ€œto be equal toโ€
1 เน„เธกเนˆเน€เธ—เนˆเธฒเธเธฑเธš 2 (nuฬ€eng mรขi thรขo gร p saฬŒawng) โ€œ1 is not equal to 2.โ€
Actually the first word, เน€เธ—เนˆเธฒ (thรขo), literally means โ€œequalโ€ and เธเธฑเธš (gร p) means โ€œwith/toโ€ so combining it would be โ€œequal toโ€. This word is often used in like mathematics and also, itโ€™s also used in like comparison when you compare two different things. Letโ€™s say that my mom is taller than me and Iโ€™m a bit shorter than her, then I will say that my height is not equal to my mom. I can say, เธชเนˆเธงเธ™เธชเธนเธ‡เธ‚เธญเธ‡เธ‰เธฑเธ™เน„เธกเนˆเน€เธ—เนˆเธฒเธเธฑเธšเธชเนˆเธงเธ™เธชเธนเธ‡เธ‚เธญเธ‡เนเธกเนˆ (sรนuan suฬŒung khaฬŒawng chฤƒn mรขi thรขo gร p sรนuan suฬŒung khaฬŒawng mรขae) โ€œMy height is not equal to my momโ€™s height.โ€
Thank you for watching! Today, we did 10 must know math words. Okay, let me ask you a few questions. What is 2 เธ„เธนเธ“ 2 (saฬŒawng khuun saฬŒawng)? Tic, tac, tic, tac, เธชเธตเนˆ (siฬ€i). 2 multiplied by 2 is 4. How about, 3 เธšเธงเธ 1 เน€เธ—เนˆเธฒเธเธฑเธšเน€เธ—เนˆเธฒเน„เธซเธฃเนˆเธ„เธฐ (saฬŒm bรนuak nuฬ€eng thรขo gร p thรขo rร i khaฬ)? Itโ€™s also 4! 3 plus 1 is equal to 4. Please donโ€™t forget to like the video, subscribe to our channel and if you have any question, just comment and see you next time. Bye-bye!
