Hello everyone. Welcome back to Thai Top Words. I am Jay and today, I will talk about 10 Ways to Motivate Yourself When Learning Thai. Okay. Let’s get started.

10 Ways to Motivate Yourself When Learning Thai. Okay. Let’s get started.

1. ฉันจินตนาการว่าซักวันจะได้ไปเที่ยวหรืออาศัยอยู่ในประเทศไทย! (chǎn jin-dtà-naa-gaan wâa sák wan jà dâi bpai thîiao rǔue aa-sǎi yùu nai bprà-thêet thai) "I imagine that one day I will visit or live in Thailand!"

2. ฉันเรียนรู้วัฒนธรรมด้านอื่น ๆ ด้วย ทำให้รู้สึกว่าการเรียนภาษาไทยมีประโยชน์มากขึ้น (chǎn riian-rúu wát-thá-ná-tham dâan ùuen-ùuen dûuai tham-hâi rúu-sùek wâa gaan riian phaa-sǎa thai mii bprà-yòot mâak khûen) "I study other aspects of the culture too, which makes it more rewarding to study Thai."

In my opinion, I think it’s very helpful to learn the culture along with the language. Once you love the culture, it will make your learning much more fun.

3. ฉันชอบหาคำตลก ๆ ในภาษาไทย! (chǎn châawp hǎa kham dtà-lòk dtà-lòk nai phaa-sǎa thai) "I like to find funny words in Thai!"

I have this example. You know that the word Five, #5 in Thai is ห้า (haà) So we always make joke that like when you laugh, hahahahaha. So when you write it, you don’t need to write like the actual – in the actual spelling. We just write the number 5 like 555 means hahaha. So that’s quite funny.

4. ฉันหาเพื่อนที่พูดภาษาไทย (chǎn hǎa phûuean thîi phûut phaa-sǎa thai) "I make friends with people who speak Thai."

I think this is a crucial part in learning any language. If you have a friend or someone that you can communicate with in a language that you are learning, it helps you tremendously. So yeah, I encourage you to find a friend who speaks Thai.

5. ฉันดูวิดีโอยูทูปของคนอื่นที่ประสบความสำเร็จในการเรียนภาษาไทย (chăn duu vi-dii-oo yuu-thúup khǎawng khon ùuen thîi bprà-sòp khwaam săm-rèt nai gaan riian phaa-săa thai) "I watch YouTube videos of other people who have successfully learned Thai."

Personally I watch YouTube videos a lot every day. So I think I mean if you want to be good in any language, you just try to find a video that speaks in that language. But sometimes now and then like if you can find any inspirational video for you to learn Thai, then maybe that helps too.

6. ฉันมีความสุขที่ได้ใช้ภาษาไทยสั่งอาหารที่ร้านอาหารไทย (chăn mii khwaam sùk thîi dâi chái phaa-săa thai sàng aa-hăan thîi ráan aa-hăan thai) "I enjoy using Thai to order at Thai restaurants!"

At one point where you can really use a language that’s not your own to order something in a restaurant, I think it’s such a big step.

7. ฉันดูหนังและรายการทีวี และจะรู้สึกดีเวลาที่ฟังคำหรือประโยคต่าง ๆ ได้รู้เรื่อง (chǎn duu nǎng láe raai-gaan thii-wii láe jà rúu-sùek dii wee-laa thîi fang kham rǔue bprà-yòok dtàang-dtàang rúu-rûueang) "I watch Thai movies and TV shows and enjoy the feeling when I can understand a word or a sentence."

I think there are a lot of good Thai movies. If you like action movies, I would recommend you to watch Ong Bak or Tom Yum Goong. My favorite one is called Bad Genius. It’s a new movie. It just came out I think a few months ago and it’s very good. You should try and watch it.

8. ฉันชอบฟังเพลงไทย (chăn châawp fang phleeng thai) "I love listening to Thai songs."

My favorite Thai singer is Stamp Apiwat, I think he is good because he is a singer and also a composer and all his songs have good meanings.

9. ฉันมีแฟนเป็นคนไทย (chăn mii faaen bpen khon thai) "I have a Thai girlfriend/boyfriend."

Actually, the word (faaen) doesn’t really indicates gender. So it can mean either girlfriend or boyfriend.

10. ฉันอยากเที่ยวในเมืองไทยด้วยตัวเอง (chăn yàak thîiao nai muueai thai dûuai dtuua eeng) "I want to travel in Thailand by myself."

I think Thailand is a very easy country to travel by yourself. I mean, people there love foreigners, transportation even though not that good but it’s convenient enough to travel around. So you should try.
