Hi everyone! I’m Alisha.
Welcome to Conversational Phrases!
We’ve found that the best way to learn a language is to speak it from day one! And the best way to start speaking is to learn phrases that you’ll use in real conversations.
In this lesson, you’ll learn conversational phrases to answer the question, "What's your favorite number?" After watching this video, you’ll be able to say many numbers and ask someone their favorite number.
Now, let’s take a look at some conversational phrases!
Listen to the dialogue.
เลขที่คุณชอบคือเลขอะไร (lêek thîi khun châawp khuue lêek à-rai)
เลขที่ฉันชอบคือเลขเจ็ด (lêek thîi chăn châawp khuue lêek jèt)
Once more with the English translation.
เลขที่คุณชอบคือเลขอะไร (lêek thîi khun châawp khuue lêek à-rai)
“What's your favorite number?”
เลขที่ฉันชอบคือเลขเจ็ด (lêek thîi chăn châawp khuue lêek jèt)
“It's seven.”
First of all you'll need to learn how to say “What's your favorite number?”
That's:
เลขที่คุณชอบคือเลขอะไร (lêek thîi khun châawp khuue lêek à-rai)
Listen to it again:
เลขที่คุณชอบคือเลขอะไร, เลขที่คุณชอบคือเลขอะไร (lêek thîi khun châawp khuue lêek à-rai, lêek thîi khun châawp khuue lêek à-rai)
“What's your favorite number?”
Now, how do you answer this question?
The pattern is:
เลขที่ฉันชอบคือเลข[number] (lêek thîi chăn châawp khuue lêek [number])
This Thai sentence literally means “My favorite number is [number].”
But it means “It's [number].”
For example:
“It's seven.”
เลขที่ฉันชอบคือเลขเจ็ด, เลขที่ฉันชอบคือเลขเจ็ด (lêek thîi chăn châawp khuue lêek jèt, lêek thîi chăn châawp khuue lêek jèt)
