Lesson Transcript

Welcome to ThaiPod101.com’s learn Thai in three minutes. The fastest, easiest, and most fun way to learn Thai.
สวัสดีค่ะ ดิฉันชื่อรวินท์พรค่ะ (sà-wàt-dii khà dì-chǎn chûue Rawinporn khâ) Hello. My name is Rawinporn.
I’ve just introduced myself in Thai.
In this lesson, you’re going to learn how to introduce yourself in Thai. It’s super easy and it takes ONLY three minutes!
First of all, we have…
สวัสดี (sà-wàt-dii) “hello” สวัสดี (sà-wàt-dii)[1]
Then, if you are male, add khráp. And if you are female, just add khà at the end of the sentence to increase the politeness level.
ผมชื่อ...ครับ (phǒm chûue …(your name)…. khráp)
ดิฉันชื่อ...ค่ะ (dì-chǎn chûue …(your name)…. khâ)
“My name is ….”
Let’s break down this sentence…
ผม(phǒm) and ดิฉัน(dì-chǎn) means “I”.
ผม(phǒm) can be used only by male while
ดิฉัน(dì-chǎn) can be used only by female
If you are male, you should say…
ผมชื่อ...ครับ(phǒm chûue …(your name)…. khráp)
If you are female…
ดิฉันชื่อ...ค่ะ(dì-chǎn chûue …(your name)…. khà)
ชื่อ(chûue) is a verb means “to name”.
For example, for me… สวัสดีค่ะ ดิฉันชื่อรวินท์พรค่ะ (sà-wàt-dii khà. dì-chǎn chûue {rá-win-phaawn} khà)
If you are male, for example, this guy ศุภชัย (sù-phá-chai)
สวัสดีครับ ผมชื่อศุภชัยครับ(sà-wàt-dii khráp. phǒm chûue {sù-phá-chai} khráp)
Time to practice! Please repeat after me…
Ladies first…
สวัสดีค่ะ (sà-wàt-dii khà)
ดิฉันชื่อ...ค่ะ (dì-chǎn chûue … khà)
Good job. Now it’s the guys turn…
สวัสดีครับ(sà-wàt-dii khráp)
ผมชื่อ...ครับ (phǒm chûue … khráp)
Good job!
Now, it’s time for Rawinporn’s hint… ta da…!
You can shorten this sentence to…
ผม/ดิฉันชื่อ...ครับ/ค่ะ (phǒm/dì-chǎn chûue …(name)… khráp/khà)
You can omit the subject phǒm/dì-chǎn in this sentence. And the level of the sentence is still formal enough for business situations.
For example, สวัสดีค่ะ รวินท์พรค่ะ (sà-wàt-dii khà. {rá-win-phaawn} khà)
Remember… when meeting Thais for the first time, always use formal language.
See… how easy to introduce yourself in Thai! In next lesson, we’ll learn more about greeting and how to “WAI”. See you next time
