John: This is Must-know Thai Slang Words and Phrases, Season 1, Lesson 2. In this lesson, you'll learn more words for referring to people. These are words used to refer to a certain group of people or characteristics of people.
SLANG EXPRESSIONS
John: The expressions you will be learning in this lesson are...
Jay: เด็กแว้น (dèk-wáen)
Jay: ติ่ง (dtìng)
Jay: ตัวพ่อ (dtuua phâaw)
Jay: ตัวแม่ (dtuua máae )
John: Jay, what's our first expression?
Jay: เด็กแว้น (dèk-wáen)
John: The literal meaning consists of...
Jay: ... Dek ...
John: … meaning “kid(s)” and...
Jay: … Waen...
John: which is the sound of revving a motorcycle engine. But when it's used as a slang expression, it means "a motopunk."

John: Use this expression when someone dresses or acts like a motopunk - a male teenager who likes to rev motorcycles to be noisy.

Jay: ติ่ง (dtìng)
John: This literally means "protrusion," but when it's used as a slang expression, it means "a die-hard fan, an obsessive follower, or an extremely loyal fan."
Jay: [SLOW] ติ่ง [NORMAL] ติ่ง

John: Use this expression to describe someone (most of the time, a kid or a teenager), who is an obsessive follower of a person or group—for example, a band, celebrities, actors, or singers.
John: Now, let's hear an example sentence.
Jay: [NORMAL] น้องสาวของฉันเป็นติ่งเกาหลี [SLOW] น้องสาวของฉันเป็นติ่งเกาหลี
John: "My sister is a die-hard fan of a Korean band."

John: This literally means "father," but when it's used as a slang expression, it means "a male who is iconic or the best in a particular area."

Thank you for this useful video.

I have a question related to this phrase "พ่อไม่ชอบให้ฉันแต่งตัวเหมือนเด็กแว้น":

Why do we use the "ให้" before "ฉัน"?

I did a research on internet and this is what i got (correct me if i am wrong) :

is "ให้" used because we have the same structure as "to have someone do something" ==> father doesn't like me (have someone), wear like a motor punk (do something).

If what I say is correct, does it mean removing 'ให้' from the phrase will make the phrase grammatically incorrect ?
