Becky: Alright, listeners.
Peter: Are you an active learner or a passive learner?
Becky: Do you even know?
Peter: Here’s the difference.
Becky: ‘Active learning’ means you’re actively engaging with learning material and focusing on it.
Peter: For example, you’re reading in your target language...
Becky: ...you’re looking up words and translating as you go along...
Peter: ...you’re memorizing a list of phrases or you’re speaking out loud.
Becky: So, you’re fully focused on what you’re learning. Nothing else.
Peter: Passive learning is different. It requires less concentration.
Becky: Yeah, it’s usually done when you’re doing something else...
Peter: ...for example, walking somewhere or taking the train.
Becky: You could be listening to an audio lesson, watching a video lesson, reading...
Peter: Now, the difference is, you’re not focused on picking apart every single word.
Becky: You’re just passively taking the language in.
Peter: So listeners, how do you learn?
Becky: Are you actively engaged or do you passively learn on the go? Or do you mix it up?
Peter: Let us know in the comments.
Becky: Now, here’s how you can learn both ways with our lessons.
Peter: If you’re an active learner, here are 4 tactics you can use right now.
Becky: Number 1 - Listen or watch a lesson and... read along with the translations.
Peter: You get complete translations in the lesson notes and the line-by-line dialogue.
Becky: ...And this will skyrocket your reading, comprehension and listening skills.
Peter: The best part is: you’ll understand every single word. The translations are right in front of you.
Becky: Number 2 - Repeat the lesson dialogue as you hear it.
Peter: This is called shadowing and it will boost your speaking skills... guaranteed.
Becky: Just repeat the lines that you hear until you can speak with confidence.
Peter: To make it even easier, you get the lines in the line-by-line...
Becky: ...and the lesson notes for every lesson.
Peter: ...so you can read them out loud as you hear them in the lesson.
Becky: Number 3 - Record yourself with our voice recorder in the line-by-line...
Peter: ...to perfect your pronunciation and see how close you are to a native speaker.
Becky: Number 4 - If you want to boost your vocabulary...
Peter: ..study words with our smart flashcards.
Becky: They sort the words for you. So, you get the harder words more often....
Peter: ...until you master them. And the easy ones show up now and then to refresh your memory.
Becky: And Number 5 – Ask questions! Leave a comment in the comment section..
Peter: Or if you’re a Premium PLUS user, you get your very own teacher...
Becky: ...and you can ask them to review and correct your writing and speaking skills..
Peter: ...ask for learning advice and get all of your questions and issues answered.
Becky: Now, if you’re on the go, and can’t really focus on the lessons...
Peter: This is a great time to do passive learning and put wasted time to use.
Becky: Simply play a lesson and listen along. That’s it.
Peter: You can learn on the go with our FREE Innovative Language 101 App
Becky: ...for the Android, iPhone and iPad.
Peter: But you should use this time to review old lessons since you can’t fully concentrate.
Becky: Great tip, Peter. It’s hard to learn new things when you’re not fully engaged.
Peter: But listeners, both are great ways to learn, depending on your situation.
Becky: If you have some quiet time and can focus, go for the active learning.
Peter: If you’re on the go or multi-tasking, passive learning is the way to go.
Becky: Whichever your style is, you can apply both with our language learning system.
Peter: And…
