Do you know how to write the short 'o,' or สระ โอะ (sà-rà ò) in Thai when there is a final consonant? Here's the tricky part: you can hear it, but you don't write it.

If there is a final consonant, write only the initial consonant and the final consonant.
Now, let's look at some words.
Listen carefully. You can hear the short 'o' sound in every word.
ขม (khǒm) bitter
สน (sǒn) pine
หยด (yòt) drop
When a syllable has a final consonant, สระ โอะ (sà-rà ò) is not written. You only write the initial consonant and the final consonant.
But the short 'o' sound is still there when you speak.
Let's review. When there is a final consonant, we do not write สระ โอะ (sà-rà ò), but the short 'o' sound is still there.
