Lesson Transcript

Hi, everybody!
Do you know how to say 'I love you' in Thai? In this lesson, you'll learn three different ways to say 'I love you' and a special phrase for Valentine's Day.
Let’s start with the most common phrase.
ฉันรักคุณ
[slowly] ฉันรักคุณ
"I love you."
This phrase is direct. You should use it only when you're confessing your love.
If you want to be less direct, you can use this phrase.
คุณมีความหมายกับผมมาก
[slowly] คุณมีความหมายกับผมมาก
It means "You mean so much to me."
Now if you want to be more romantic in expressing your love for someone, you can say this phrase.
รักที่ฉันมีให้เธอ ไม่สามารถอธิบายได้ด้วยคำพูด
[slowly] รักที่ฉันมีให้เธอ ไม่สามารถอธิบายได้ด้วยคำพูด
It means "Words cannot describe my love for you."
Now you know three different ways to say 'I love you' in Thai! And here's one more. What if you want to spend Valentine's Day with someone special? In that case, you can say...
มาเป็นวาเลนไทน์ของผมได้ไหม
[slowly] มาเป็นวาเลนไทน์ของผมได้ไหม
It means "Will you be my Valentine?"
Let's wrap up this lesson by recapping what we've learned. Listen to the expression and repeat after me.

Well done! [pause] Here's a fun fact! Do you know you can give a special meaning to your loved one with the number of roses you give?
When a man buys roses for his loved one, the size of the bouquet isn’t as important as the number of flowers in it. It's because there’s a meaning behind the number of flowers. For example, nine roses mean “we are going to love each other forever,” and twenty roses mean “I am sincere to you.”
You just learned three different ways to say 'I love you' in Thai and one special phrase for Valentine's Day. It's good to hear about the cultural differences and meanings, thanks again Jay.

In England we say: 1 rose = I love you (ฉันรักคุณ), 12 roses = "Be mine" on Valentine's Day ❤️️

Schoolchildren - Thai teachers on this site again messed up everything.😒

Video only 5 minutes! Karl, 5 minutes! You can not re-shoot the video with normal focus? What is wrong with you? You take money for it!

And in the room echo. As if sitting in a box. Buy a normal microphone. It's horrible. Why don't you understand ordinary things that it is very hard for us to listen to you?😮😈

Hi Kevin,

Thank you very much for your comment and question. มั้ย is already correct because

Low class consonant + máai-ѐek = falling tone

Low class consonant + máai-thoo = high tone.

Yes, it is with middle class consonant is the only class that you can used all 4 tone marks with but not with high and low class consonant. Please recheck your note again and let me know if we make a mistake. Hope that’s help. Let me know if you have any future questions. I will be glad to help. We wish you will have a good progress with Thai.

Have a nice day.
