It would be nice if we could add the whole dialogue phrases to the word bank and flash cards.

Khàawp-khun mâak ná khráp! It was a really great help. I was actually asking why I hear some different way of saying thanks from the series I was watching. Now, I already undertand them. Khàawp-khun khráp! Susu!

Hello Murphy,

Thank you very much for your comment and question. Man also using but may not as often as women jâ = end of statement já = end of question jáa/jâa = the longer it's sound the sweeter it get so you surely not speak to anyone you just met. Your girlfriend is partly correct. On TV. Thai lakorn and TV. you will get to hear all this particle being used a lot and also daily life conversation. Hope that's help. Please do not hesitate to ask if you have future questions. I will be glad to help. We wish you will have a good progress with Thai.

Wish you a great day.

Your lesson states: "This means, for both men and women, we say khàawp-jai jà."

My Thai girlfriend says this is incorrect and as a man I would say khaawp-jai khrap and she would say khàawp-jai jà.

Also you say that this phrase is used for those very close to you. Again, she disagrees, saying that I can use this in daily interactions that are not formal, such as market vendors, shop people, etc. assuming they are younger/lower status than I.

As I am just beginning to use your lessons I find these discrepancies disconcerting.

Is this a regional dialect issue? She is from northwest Thailand, Phetchabun province.

What say you?

Thank you.
