This lesson was supposed to be about saying Please! Not here in this lesson! I know how to say Please in Thai but this shows why there are so many problems with these lessons. Maybe someday you will figure out that you need an editor to correct the many, many errors.

Sorry, they need an edit function for comments. I meant to say "The R sound in common speech is often dropped or changed to L."

For Tony asking abut Khrap. The R in thai is rolled, like in Spanish. So it is a little more difficult to say. The R sound in common speech is often dropped or changed to R. So in common speech you will hear Khap most of the time. Listen to Thai news and you will hear them using the more proper pronunciations. One example of a word where the R is often changed to L is hot เธฃเน‰เธญเธ™. You will mostly hear it said as "lawn" not "rawn" or should I put it as "rrrawn"

I have had a basic (free) account for several years, but I'm disappointed to find that recently there is no "lesson" available on these "Throwback Thursday" events unless I "upgrade". What's going on with this phony offer?

Hello Tony,

Thank you very much for your comment and question. It's not a dialect just because in daily conversation "r" sound is often drop, So lot of the time you might hear "kap" instead of "krap". Please feel free to let me know if you have any future questions. I will be glad to help. We wish you will have a good progress with Thai.

Have a nice day.

I've often found that Thai people say 'cup' and not 'Khrap', in fact thats all I've heard men say to me, in a hotel for instance when showing me around the room, or when buying something, its always 'cup' or 'khup' and not 'khrap'.

Is this to do with local dialect or is it just a lot more familiar and casual way of saying khrap?
