Hello Khun paul,

Thank you. In my opinion, it is easy to understand, but for some people it is like a different language. Sometimes they used totally different words. Chiang Rai people are sometimes harder to understand because they speak faster than Chiang mai people but i'm sure they understand middle Thai especially the younger generation. You can understand them like I do, you just need to listen to them and you will see it just a tone off voice that different and some words are quite unique. Please let me know if you have any future questions. I will be glad to help.

Have a good day.

Since you are very helpful, can you answer a question that troubles me a lot? My question is--how different is standard/Bangkok Thai from Northern Thai? Is it a small difference, just a matter of pronunciation? Or is it a large difference, a matter of dialect? I live near Chiang Rai, and thanks to your excellent course can speak Thai quite well with my Thai wife and family, but when I go out to the temple/market etc I have trouble making myself understood and even more trouble understanding what is said to me. Thank you.

Thank you for your reply, but the third chunk of text (after sap-daa thii) is missing a lot of what is spoken on the audio. Thanks, Paul Lyons.

Hello Paul,

Thank you for comment. Does the audio help a bit? I will inform our team about it. "lék náauy" should be "lék náawi" and "òp-ùp" should be "òp-ùn". Please let me know if there are more. I will be glad to help.

Have a nice day.

The romanization of the thai is scrambled and out of order in this lesson, making it very difficult to follow. Is it possible to rectify this, as the weather report is an important subject?
