Hello and welcome back to Thai Weekly Words with me, Prathana. This week, we'll be learning about “currency exchange” แลกเปลี่ยนเงินตรา (lâaek bplìian ngooen dtraa).
1. ยูโร (yuu-roo) “Euro”
ประเทศในยุโรปใช้เงินสกุลยูโร (bprà-thêet nai yú-rôop chái ngooen sà-gun yuu-roo) “Countries in Europe use Euro money.”
2. ดอลลาร์สหรัฐ (don-lâa sà-hà-rát) “US Dollar”
1 ดอลลาร์สหรัฐเท่ากับประมาณ 30 บาท (nùeng don-lâa sà-hà-rát thâo gàp bprà-maan săam sìp bàat) “1 US Dollar equals about 30 Baht.”
3. แบงค์ย่อย (báeng yâauy) “small bill”
คุณมีแบงค์ย่อยมั้ยคะ (khun mii báeng yâauy mái khá) “Do you have small bills?”
4. เงินสด (ngooen sòt) “cash”
ที่นี่ เรารับแต่เงินสดค่ะ (thîi nîi rao ráp dtàe ngooen sòt khâ) “Here we only accept cash.”
5. เหรียญ (rĭian) “coin”
ตู้นี้ทอนเงินเป็นเหรียญเท่านั้น (dtûu níi thaawn ngooen bpen rĭian thâo nán) “This machine only gives change in coins.”
You have to be careful because the Sky Train ticket selling machine in Thailand, some of them will accept bank notes, but it will only give changes in coins so if you’re not careful, you might get hundreds of coins as changes so don’t do that.
