| Jing: This conversation takes place at the airport. |
| Ja: It’s between Pong, Bow and Ning, who are all co-workers. |
| Jing: The speakers are close to each other, so they’ll be using informal Thai. |

| Ja: This phrase means "I don't know what's the matter." |
| Jing: ถูกต้องค่ะ “ไม่รู้” เป็น verb "to not know". และคำว่า “เป็นอะไร” สามารถใช้ในประโยคคำถามในความหมายว่า "What's the matter?" หรือ "What's wrong?" |
| Ja: So when you put them together, it means "I don't know what's wrong." |
| Jing: ถูกต้องค่ะ |
| Ja: And what's the whole phrase again? |

| Ja: Ok, what's the next phrase? |
| Jing: “รอพี่แป๊บนะ raaw phîi bpáaep ná” |
| Ja: This means "Wait for me just a moment." |
| Jing: ใช่ค่ะ “รอ raaw” is the verb "to wait", and “พี่ phîi” is being used as the pronoun "me". |
| Ja: So we don't actually need the word "for". |
| Jing: ถูกต้องค่ะ. In Thai, we can simply follow the verb "to wait" with a noun. We don't need to add another word that means "for". |
| Ja: OK, and what does the word “แป๊บ bpáaep” mean? |
| Jing: “แป๊บ” หมายความว่า "just a second" หรือ "just a moment". |
| Ja: Alright, what's the last phrase? |
| Jing: “คนหันมามองหมดแล้ว khon hǎn maa maawng mòt láaeo” |
| Ja: This sentence means "Everybody is turning around to look." |
| Jing: ถูกต้องค่ะ คำว่า “คน” เป็น noun แปลว่า "people", และคำว่า “หัน” เป็น verb หมายความว่า "to turn around". |
| Ja: Why do you use the verb “มา maa” in the sentence? |
| Jing: You include the verb “มา maa” to show the direction that the people are turning in relation to the speaker. |
| Ja: I see. Then the verb “มอง maawng” means " to stare", right? |
| Jing: ถูกต้องค่ะ ในประโยค ที่เขาพูดว่า “มองหมดแล้ว” หมายความว่า "they are all completely staring". |
| Ja: And how about we hear the entire sentence once more. |

| Ja: "Everybody is turning around to look." โอเค ตอนนี้เรามาดู grammar กันนะคะ Okay, now onto the grammar. |

| Ja: The focus of this lesson is using “อยู่ดี ๆ yùu-dii-dii” to mean "suddenly". |
| Jing: “อยู่ดี ๆ yùu-dii-dii” is an adverb that means "suddenly", "unexpectedly", or "abruptly". |
| Ja: OK, how do we use “อยู่ดี ๆ yùu-dii-dii” in a sentence? |
| Jing: ส่วนใหญ่เราจะใช้ขึ้นต้นประโยค เหมือนในภาษาอังกฤษแหละค่ะ |
| Ja: I see. So it's just like saying "Suddenly....this happened" or "Suddenly....that happened." |

| Ja: Great. This shouldn't be too hard to master then. What examples did we have in the conversation? |

| Ja: "You suddenly called me this loudly." I noticed that in both examples the word “ก็ gâaw” follows directly after “อยู่ดีๆ yùu-dii-dii.” |
| Jing: ใช่ค่ะ That's very good of you to notice. |
| Ja: What's the purpose of ก็ in these sentences? |
| Jing: It is just to make the transition into the main statement more smooth. |
| Ja: I see, so if we say “อยู่ดี ๆ ก็” it will sound more natural than “อยู่ดี ๆ” |
| Jing: ดิฉันก็คิดอย่างนั้นค่ะ ตัวอย่างสุดท้ายก็เหมือนกันคือ ... |
| “อยู่ดี ๆ ก็ไม่สบาย |
| yùu-dii-dii gâaw mâi sà-baai.” |
