| Jing: Well, in Thai the number 9 is เก้า. It sounds just like another word “ก้าว” which means "to progress". |
| Ja: I see. And they take the number nine pretty seriously, don't they? |

| Jing: “เชื่อ chûuea” is the verb "to believe", and “ตามๆกัน dtaam-dtaam gan” means "following each other". |
| Ja: Then we have “โดย dooi” as a conjunction that means "by way of", and “ไร้เหตุผล rái-hèet-phǒn” as an adjective that means "without logic" or "groundless". So the whole phrase gives us something like "follow each other in believing illogically." |

| Ja: So in this sentence, we are using อย่างไรก็ตาม to connect the two ideas. |
| Jing: ถูกต้องค่ะ In this example, the two ideas don't really contrast each other. But we can also use อย่างไรก็ตาม to link two contrasting ideas. |
