สวัสดีค่ะ สบายดีไหมคะ (sà-wàt-dii khà. sà-baai-dii mái khá) “How are you?”
Welcome back to ThaiPod101.com’s Thai in three minutes. The fastest, easiest, and most fun way to learn Thai.
How much do manners matter in Thailand? Manners are everything! In this lesson, you’re going to learn how to say “Thank you” “I am sorry” and how to give a response in Thai. This is SUPER easy and you’ll learn them all in THREE minutes.
So here are the three phrases.
ขอบคุณ(khàawp-khun)
ขอบคุณครับ/ค่ะ(khàawp-khun khráp/khà)
ขอบคุณ(khàawp-khun) “thank you”
Next, ขอโทษ(khǎaw-thôot)
ขอโทษครับ/ค่ะ(khǎaw-thôot khráp/khà)
ขอโทษ(khǎaw-thôot) “excuse me” or “I’m sorry”
And next, (mâi-bpen-rai)
ไม่เป็นไรครับ/ค่ะ(mâi-bpen-rai khráp/khà)
ไม่เป็นไร(mâi-bpen-rai) means “Never mind” “That’s ok” “Don’t worry” “No problem”
Let’s practice these three phrases in different situations…

ขอบคุณครับ/ค่ะ(khàawp-khun khráp/khà)

looking at the menu
ขอโทษค่ะ(khǎaw-thôot khà)
I am walking. Then suddenly hit an old guy and that old guy fell down.
I help that person to get up
ขอโทษค่ะ(khǎaw-thôot khà)
An old guy reply ไม่เป็นไร(mâi-bpen-rai)
On the public bus. The bus makes a sudden stop and I almost fall down, then I hit someone.
ขอโทษค่ะ(khǎaw-thôot khà)
That passenger reply ไม่เป็นไรครับ/ค่ะ(mâi-bpen-rai khráp/khà)

Do smile J when saying these phrases…
ขอบคุณ(khàawp-khun) “thank you”
ขอโทษ(khǎaw-thôot) “excuse me” when you want to attract one’s attention and…
ไม่เป็นไร(mâi-bpen-rai) “Never mind”
Remember, Thais always smile. That’s why it is called “Thailand, the land of smile”
