Hello everyone, welcome back to top words with me Jay. Today, we are going to learn about Top 10 Reasons to Learn a Language. Okay, let’s begin.
1. ครอบครัวของฉัน มาจากที่ที่พูดภาษานั้น (khrâawp-khruua khǎawng chǎn maa-jàak thîi thîi phûut phaa-sǎa nán) "My family comes from a place where the language is spoken."
A more natural way to say this sentence is rather by saying ภาษานั้น (phaa-sǎa nán), you say the name of the language. So in Thai, you would say,
ครอบครัวของฉัน มาจากที่ที่พูดภาษาไทย (khrâawp-khruua khǎawng chǎn maa-jàak thîi thîi phûut phaa-sǎa thai)
So it is more comprehensive and it’s more natural.
2. ฉันก็แค่ชอบเรียน ภาษาต่างๆ (chǎn gâaw khâae châawp riian phaa-sǎa dtàang dtàang) "I just love learning languages."
How many languages do you love to learn? For me, I am learning one more language and I understand how you feel about learning a new language. It is not easy but you have to try. Me too, I have to try.
3. นี่คืองานอดิเรกของฉัน (nîi khuue ngaan-à-dì-rèek khǎawng chǎn) "It's my hobby."
I love writing and drawing and when I learned English, I always tried to write in English rather than in Thai to practice my English. So you could do the same.
4. ฉันชอบไปเที่ยว (chǎn châawp bpai thîiao) "I love traveling."
If you can speak the language when you travel, I think you will enjoy more because you can communicate and you can read signboards and menus. So.
5. ฉันอยากคุยกับครอบครัวของแฟน ด้วยภาษาของพวกเขา (chǎn yàak khui gàp khrâawp-khruua khǎawng faaen dûuai phaa-sǎa khǎawng phûuak-khǎo) "I want to speak to my partner's family in their language."
Actually, in Thai, you don’t have to say ภาษาของพวกเขา (phaa-sǎa khǎawng phûuak-khǎo), “in their language”. You can also say the language itself, for example,
ฉันอยากคุยกับครอบครัวของแฟน ด้วยภาษาไทย
(chǎn yàak khui gàp khrâawp-khruua khǎawng faaen dûuai phaa-sǎa thai)
“I want to speak to my partner’s family in Thai.”
6. ฉันอยากฟังเพลงที่ชอบ รวมทั้งดูหนัง
และดูทีวีรายการโปรด ให้เข้าใจ (chǎn yàak fang pleeng thîi châawp ruuam tháng duu năng láe duu tii-wii raai gaan bpròot hâi khâo-jai) "I want to understand my favorite songs, movies, and TV shows."
When I started learning English, I always watch American sitcoms to practice my listening skill. My favorite is Friends. So if you want to learn Thai, you might try to find any movie, Thai movie to watch. My recommendation to Thai movies is Ong-Bak. You should check that out.
7. ฉันอยากเปิดความคิดให้กว้างและอินเตอร์มากขึ้น (chǎn yàak bpòoet khwaam khít hâi gwâang láe in-dtêr mâak khûen) "I want to open my mind and become more international."
I think language helps you to open and broaden your perspective.
8. ฉันอาศัยอยู่ในประเทศที่พูดภาษานี้ (chǎn aa-sǎi yùu nai bprà-thêet thîi phûut phaa-sǎa níi) "I live in a country that speaks the language."
So if you want to say that I live in a country where people speak Thai, you can say, ฉันอาศัยอยู่ในประเทศที่พูดภาษาไทย (chǎn aa-sǎi yùu nai bprà-thêet thîi phûut phaa-sǎa thai)
9. มันเป็นภาษาที่ไพเราะ (man bpen phaa-sǎa thîi phai ráw) "It's a beautiful language."
For me as a native, I don’t know if Thai is considered beautiful. I think it is. I mean, any language is but I heard some of my friends said that it’s very unique and beautiful as well because Thai language is actually a tonal language. We have different intonations. That’s why when we speak Thai, some people think that we are singing. Some people used to ask me whether I was singing when I spoke Thai but I said, no, I did not sing. I just spoke my language.
10. ฉันชอบอาหารไทย (chǎn châawp aa hăan thai) "I love Thai food."
I know that many people love Thai food, like tom yum goong or green curry rice, or Chicken rice. There are a lot of Thai foods that I can’t name of. And if you know how to pronounce or say the name of the food, it will help you in life when you go to the restaurant ordering food in Thai, it will help.
Okay, now we are done with the 10 Reasons to Learn a Language. Do you have your own reasons to learn a language? Yes. Anyway, if you have any comments or questions, just let us know and don’t forget to subscribe. See you next time.
