Hello, guys! Welcome back! I’m Jay again, and today we are going to do 10 Thai Foods. Let’s begin!
1. ขนมหม้อแกง (khà-nŏm mâaw-gaaeng) “Mung Bean Thai Custard”
The first word today is, ขนมหม้อแกง (khà-nŏm mâaw-gaaeng) “Mung Bean Thai Custard”.
ขนมหม้อแกงเป็นที่นิยมมากในจังหวัดเพชรบุรี (khà-nŏm mâaw-gaaeng bpen thîi ní-yom mâak)
“Mung Bean Thai Custard is very popular in Petchburi Province.”
This dessert is usually found at the beach.
2. ต้มยำกุ้ง (dtôm-yam-gûng) “Tom Yam Gung”
Or in English, of course, it is pronounced the same, Tom Yam Gung.
I think everyone know this word.
ต้มยำกุ้งมีรสเผ็ด (dtôm-yam-gûng mii rót phèt) “Tom Yam Gung is very spicy.”
3. น้ำปลา (nám-bplaa) “fish sauce”
It is food but it is more like ingredient that we used to cook Thai food.
เวลาฉันกินก๋วยเตี๋ยว ฉันชอบหยอดน้ำปลา (wee-laa chăn gin gŭuai-dtĭiao chăn châawp yàawt nám-bplaa)
“When I eat noodles, I love to add fish sauce.”
4. น้ำพริก (nám-phrík) “chili paste”
น้ำพริก (nám-phrík) is spicy, that is why we eat it with vegetables.
ฉันชอบกินน้ำพริกกับผัก (chăn châawp gin nám-phrík gàp phàk) “I love to eat chili paste with vegetables.”
5. ผัดไท (phàt-thai) “Pad Thai”
ผัดไท (phàt-thai), or “Pad Thai”
ถ้าจะกินผัดไทต้องไปกินที่ประตูผี (thâa jà gin phàt-thai dtâwng bpai gin thîi bprà-dtuu-phǐi)
“If you want to eat Pad Thai, you have to go to Pratu Pi.”
In Bangkok, if you have the chance to go to Thailand, you have to try Pad Thai because it is very good.
6. ส้มตำ (sôm-dtam) “Somtam”
ส้มตำ (sôm-dtam), or in English, also Somtam.
I have heard other people calling this dish “spicy salad”. This dish is different from typical salad because it is use raw papaya as the main ingredients, and it is spicy and sour. Normally we eat this with sticky rice.
ฉันชอบกินส้มตำกับข้าวเหนียว (chăn châawp gin sôm-dtam gàp khâao-nĭiao) “I love to eat Somtam with sticky rice.”
7. แกงจืด (gaaeng-jùuet) “clear soup”
คุณแม่ของฉันชอบทำแกงจืดให้ฉันทาน (khun-mâae khǎawng chăn châawp tham gaaeng-jùuet hâi chăn thaan)
“My mom loves to cook clear soup for me.”
I have been eating this dish since I was very young, because it is very good for your health.
8. แกงเขียวหวาน (gaaeng-khĭiao-wăan) “Thai Green Curry”
คนต่างชาติชอบกินแกงเขียวหวาน (khon-dtàang-châat châawp gin gaaeng-khĭiao-wăan)
“Foreigners love to eat Thai Green Curry.”
9. โรตีสายไหม (roo-dtii săai-măi) “Roti Saimai”
โรตีสายไหม (roo-dtii săai-măi), or in English “Roti Saimai” as well.
ตอนที่ฉันเป็นเด็ก ฉันชอบกินโรตีสายไหม (dtaawn-thîi chăn bpen dèk chăn châawp gin roo-dtii săai-măi)
“When I was a kid, I loved to eat Roti Saimai.”
“Saimai” is actually cotton candy. If you’re lucky, you find someone that sells this “Roti Saimai” on the street, you should try.
10. ขนมลูกชุบ (khà-nŏm lûuk-chúp) “deletable imitation fruits”
ลูกชุบ (lûuk-chúp), “deletable imitation fruits,” but it is not a fruit.
เด็กๆ ชอบกินขนมลูกชุบ (dèk dèk châawp gin khà-nŏm lûuk-chúp) “Children love to eat luuk-chup.”
It is actually Thai dessert in shape of fruit. It is very good and sweet, that’s why kids in Thailand love it so much. I love it too!
