Hello, guys! Welcome back to Thai Top Words. I'm Jay, and today we'll be doing 10 Words for Connecting Thoughts. Ok, let's get started.
1. อย่างไรก็ตาม (yàang rai gâaw dtaam) "however"
This word is used to connect two sentences, but these two sentences are the opposite from one another. So it's not the word "but," it's like, you can kinda connect the two sentences, but the idea of each sentence is different.
ฉันชอบกินขนมหวานมาก อย่างไรก็ตามถ้ากินมากๆมันก็ไม่ดีนะ (chăn châawp gin khà-nŏm wăan mâak yàang rai gâaw dtaam thâa gin mâak mâak man gâaw mâi dii ná) "I love to eat dessert. However, if you eat it too much, then it's not good for your health."
2. ในที่สุด (nai thîi sùt) "eventually"
ในที่สุดฉันก็ทำการบ้านเสร็จ (nai thîi sùt chăn gâaw tham gaan bâan sèt) "Eventually, I finished all my homework."
3. ในขณะเดียวกัน (nai khà-nà diiao gan) "meanwhile"
ฉันกำลังทำการบ้าน ในขณะเดียวกันน้องชายก็กำลังเล่นเกม (chăn gam-lang tham gaan bâan nai khà-nà diiao gan náawng chaai gâaw gam-lang lêen geem) "I'm doing my homework, meanwhile, my brother is playing games."
4. แล้วก็ (láaeo gâaw) "then"
ฉันกินข้าวเสร็จแล้วก็กินของหวานต่อ (chăn gin khâao sèt láaeo gâaw gin khǎawng wăan dtàaw) "I finished my meal and then I had dessert."
5. แทนที่ (thaaen thîi) "instead"
For this word, sometimes, it is แทนที่ (thaaen thîi), sometimes it's just the word แท (thaaen). So you can use either แทนที่ (thaaen thîi) or แท (thaaen) depending on the context.
ฉันไปเที่ยวภูเก็ตแทนที่จะไปเที่ยวพัทยา (chăn bpai thîiao phuu-gèt thaaen thîi jà bpai thîiao phát-thá-yaa) "I traveled to Phuket instead of traveling to Pattaya."
6. อย่างแน่นอน (yàang nâae naawn) "certainly"
พวกเราจะชนะอย่างแน่นอน (phûuak rao jà chá-ná yàang nâae naawn) "We will win, certainly."
7. ยิ่งนัก (yîng nák) "indeed"
ฉันรักเธอยิ่งนัก (chăn rák thooe yîng nák) "I love you, indeed."
This word, ยิ่งนัก (yîng nák), it is quite formal, so normally you see it in writing, like in a book or literatur, so we don't really actually say it out, because it's not really natural to say this word.
8. นอกเหนือจาก (nôk nǔuea jàak) "besides"
นอกเหนือจากอาหารไทย ฉันก็ชอบกินอาหารญี่ปุ่น (nôk nǔuea jàak aa-hăan thai chăn gâaw châawp gin aa-hăan yîi-bpùn) "Besides Thai food, I also like Japanese food."
9. ยังคง (yang khong) "still"
ฉันยังคงรักเขาอยู่ (chăn yang khong rák khăo yùu) "I still love him."
It seems like every sentence is about love. Ok.
10. ในขณะนี้ (khà-nà níi) "currently"
ในขณะนี้ฝนกำลังตก (nai khà-nà níi fŏn gam-lang dtòk) "Currently, it is raining."
It is quite a bit formal, so I think you'll hear it in the news, or you can see it in writings. But if you want to say it, I think you can say ตอนนี้ (dôn níi) or "now", it's more natural.
We're done for today's lesson, thank you for watching. Ok, see you next time! Bye-bye.
