Lesson Transcript

Hello, everyone! Welcome back to Thai Top Words. I’m Jay and today’s lesson will be very useful to some of you. It’s top 10 marriage proposal lines. Okay, let’s get started!
1. คุณจะแต่งงานกับผมมั๊ย (khun jà dtàaeng ngaan gàp phŏm mái) “Will you marry me?”
Okay, yes I will. For this, if you noticed, I used the word ผม (phŏm), but ผม (phŏm) is only used for guys so if you are a girl and you want to propose to your guy, your boyfriend, which is all right, I mean it’s like, you know, it’s 2017 so it’s all right, you can say คุณจะแต่งงานกับฉันมั๊ย(khun jà dtàaeng ngaan gàp chǎn mái) for girls, or คุณจะแต่งงานกับผมมั๊ย (khun jà dtàaeng ngaan gàp phŏm mái) for guys.
2. คุณจะทำให้ผมเป็นผู้ชายที่มีความสุขที่สุดได้มั๊ย (khun jà tham hâi phŏm bpen phûu chaai thîi mii khwaam sùk thîi sùt dâi mái) “Will you make me the happiest man alive?”
Well, okay, yes I will!
3. คุณเป็นคนที่ผมเฝ้ารอมาทั้งชีวิต (khun bpen khon thîi phŏm fâo raaw maa tháng chii-wít) “You are the one I have been waiting for my whole life.”
Well, I mean like I would feel happy if someone say that to me.
4. ผมอยากจะอยู่กับคุณตลอดไป (phŏm yàak jà yùu gàp khun dtà-làawt bpai) “I want to be with you forever.”
You know what, some of the sentences here seem a bit too cheesy when it’s translated to Thai phrases, but actually this sentence is one I feel that is very natural. I mean, you can really use it in real life.
5. เรามาใช้ชีวิตที่เหลือไปด้วยกันนะ (rao maa chái chii-wít thîi lǔuea bpai dûuai gan ná) “Let’s spend the rest of our lives together.”
6. การมีคุณอยู่เคียงข้างช่วยเติมเต็มชีวิตผม (gaan mii khun yùu khiiang khâang chûuai dtooem dtem chii-wít phŏm) “Having you by my side is what completes me.”
Wow that’s sweet.
7. ผมไม่อยากคิดเลยว่าชีวิตผมจะเป็นยังไงถ้าไม่มีคุณ (phŏm mâi yàak khít looei wâa chii-wít phŏm jà bpen yang ngai thâa mâi mii khun) “I can't imagine my life without you in it.”
If you are a girl and you want to respond back like, “Me too. I feel the same too.” You can say [ฉันก็เหมือนกัน] (chăn gâaw mǔuean gan) or [ฉันก็รู้สึกเหมือนเธอ] (chăn gâaw rúu sùek mǔuean thooe), I feel the same as you.
8. ผมอยากให้คุณทุกอย่าง แต่ผมหวังว่าแหวนวงนี้คงจะมีค่าพอ (phŏm yàak hâi khun thúk yàang dtàae phŏm wăng wâa wǎaen wong níi khong jà mii khâa phaaw) “I wish I could give you everything, but I hope that this ring is enough.”
ผมอยากให้คุณทุกอย่าง แต่ผมหวังว่าแหวนวงนี้คงจะมีค่าพอ (phŏm yàak hâi khun thúk yàang dtàae phŏm wăng wâa wǎaen wong níi khong jà mii khâa phaaw) “I hope to give you everything, but I hope that this ring is enough.”
So ring, แหวน (wǎaen), remember. It’s important for a marriage proposal.
9. ก่อนที่ผมจะพบคุณ ผมไม่เคยรู้เลยว่าชีวิตก่อนหน้านี้ของผมมันว่างเปล่าขนาดไหน (gàawn thîi phŏm jà phóp khun phŏm mâi khooei rúu looei wâa chii-wít gàawn nâa níi khǎawng phŏm man wâang bplào khà-nàat nǎi) “Before I met you, I never realized how empty my life was.”
Wow, that’s very cheesy. I mean, yeah.
10. คุณจะให้เกียรติมาเป็นภรรยาของผมมั๊ย (khun jà hâi gìiat ma bpen phan-rá-yaa khǎawng phŏm mái) “Will you do me the honor of becoming my wife?”
I heard this English line in some movie sometimes, but I have never heard it in any Thai media and I’m not sure if Thai people really use it. And when I say, “I’m not sure” because I haven’t gotten married so I can’t say if people really use it.
Thank you for watching. What is your favorite quote or the quote that you think is the most cheesy one above all? Let us know in the comment below and don’t forget to click like to this video and visit our website at ThaiPod101.com and see you next time. Bye-bye!
