HideThe Thai writing system can be confusing at first, but that's where we come in! Don't hesitate to ask any questions!
Hi Christopher Davis,
For certain lesson series, the lesson notes and the lesson transcript would be identical, hence we only have the notes in such cases. Please download the Lesson Notes file.
Kind regards,
Levente

Hello Manuel,
Thank you. Add those letter indicate a name or last name have good meaning from old language of Bali or Sangrit. Look for พงศ์ and พจน์ in http://www.thai-language.com/dict/search , you would see how great the meaning of the word. Hope that helps. Please let me know if you have any future questions. I will be glad to help.
Have a good day.

Hello,
I refer to the following words:
1) “Phonglamai” พงศ์ละไม This is my friend’s family name, in original Thai writing.
Would you kindly explain the role of this character ศ์? If I read the Thai word, I see “Phong” and “Lamai”, so I don’t see the role of ศ์.
Could you also kindly explain what is that mark above it.
2) “Sompot” สมพจน์ This is my friend’s first name, in original Thai writing.
Would you kindly explain the role of this character น์? If I see the romanized version, the word already has จ with a “T” sound, so น์ seems unnecessary.
Also, would you please explain what is that mark above it.
Thank you for your help.
Hello Grace,
Thank you for comment. Name is often spell with ภ especially your name ภูม or most I see ภูมิ vowel on top of ม is not pronounce. พ is commonly used once it come to normal daily vocaburaly, memorise word spell would be the best help. ภ is not use that much such as ภาค อุณภูมิ สวรรณภูมิ ภายใน ภิรมณ์ and etc. ภ It is mostly used with Bali or Sankrit words. Hope that’s help. Please let me know if you have any future questions. I will be glad to help.
Have a good day.

how do i know which letter to use in writing thai?
for example, writing the name "phum", how do i know if i should use "พ" or "ภ" as the initial consonant?
Hello Ben,
Thank you very much. With tone markers we also need to know the class of an initial consonants of the syllable.
If it is Mid class consonant then -่ -้ -๊ -๋ are in order Low , falling, high and rising tone. With high class consonant, there are two tone mark would be used -่ -้ in order Low and falling tone. Finally with Low class consonants -่ -้ tone will be Falling and high tone in order. Hope that's help.
Have a nice day.

Hello,
It'd be nice to know which tone is associated with each of the symbols below:
-่ -้ -๊ -๋
I suppose there are no accent market pour the mid tone ?
Thank you,
Hello Vince,
Thanks again for your comment and share your experience with us here. Here is how to write
DHC-2 Beaver in Thai is ดี เอช ซี- สอง "Beaver" บีเวอร์ and C-GACK in Thai is ซี-จีเอซีเค. Hope that helps.
Have a nice day.

This is a learning question. Yesterday I flew on a small airplane for work. Sitting next to the pilot I read the name of the airplane and model number. This is an old "classic" plane called a "BEAVER".
Just for fun I tried to write the name and call numbers in Thai, but did not too a good job. I struggled with the english letters C and V. How would you write the name in Thai?
The name of the plane is: DHC-2 Beaver
Call letters on the plane are: C-GACK
Please show me how a Thai person would write them. I'm very curious to know what Thai letter replaces the english letter C and how the letter V is handled by a Thai.
