| John: In this lesson, you’ll learn about leaving a message. The conversation takes place over the phone. |
| Anutida: It's between Araya and a receptionist. |
| John: The speakers are strangers, therefore, they will speak formal Thai. Okay, let's listen to the conversation. |

| John: Araya was lucky that Ms. Saay came in during the phone call. |
| Anutida: Yes, it meant that Araya could speak to her directly instead of having to leave a message. |
| John: That would be much better when you’re apologising for being late. |
| Anutida: It would. |
| John: We’ve spoken before about time keeping in Thailand. |
| Anutida: Yes, we have. |
| John: We know that although Thai people are relaxed about time keeping in general, this isn’t the case in the business world. |
| Anutida: No, in business being punctual is very important. |
| John: For a meeting, should you be on time, or be early? |
| Anutida: Being a few minutes early is better. |
| John: What would people think if you arrived just on time? |
| Anutida: That you’re unprofessional, so please make sure to be early! |

| John: "I want to pass a message to Mr. Nick." In the conversation, Araya was leaving a message due to being late for a meeting. Hopefully, this isn’t a message you’ll ever need to pass on, but just in case, here are some phrases to say that you’ll be late. |

| John: "Sorry." We heard that this can mean "excuse me" earlier and that is true, it can mean either. It just depends on the situation. |

| John: "I might be late." |
| Anutida: คงไปสายประมาณ 5 นาที (khong bpai săai bprà-maan hâa naa-thii) |
| John: "I’ll probably be around five minutes late." |
