Receptionist: Yes, there is. The Wi-Fi password will be in your room. For the printer, you can request to use it at the front counter.
John: That was a thankfully easy check-in for Araya.
Anutida: Yes, I always worry when I check into a hotel that they’ll have lost my reservation!
John: Me too! Do you have any tips for us when staying in a hotel as part of a business trip?
Anutida: Make sure that you take your shoes off before entering your hotel room.
John: That is true in a lot of situations, right?
Anutida: Yes. It’s very common for Thai people to leave their shoes outside.
John: When is the busiest holiday season in Thailand?
Anutida: It’s April, as this is the month that has the Thai new year.
John: So it’s best to avoid this period if you’re planning a business trip to Thailand.
Anutida: Yes. Many staff will be on leave, so if you can, go at a different time.
John: Go somewhere else and leave Bangkok for later in the year.
Anutida: That’s a good idea!

KEY VOCAB AND PHRASES
John: Let's have a closer look at the usage of some of the words and phrases from this lesson. The first word is...
Anutida: ถูกต้องไหม(thùuk-dtâwng mái)
John: meaning "Is this correct?"
John: Let’s break down this question.
Anutida: First is ถูกต้อง(thùuk-dtâwng) meaning "correct", and then there is ไหม(mái)
John: This is a question particle, and it shows that the sentence is a question, so you can use this phrase to confirm information.
Anutida: People often confuse ถูกต้องไหม (thùuk-dtâwng mái) with ใช่ไหม(châi mái).
John: That new, second phrase means "is it right?" What’s the difference between the two?
Anutida: We use ใช่ไหม(châi mái) when asking any question.
John: But our target phrase is only for confirmation of information we’ve already been told. Okay, can you give us an example using this phrase?
Anutida: Sure. For example, you can say... คุณจะขอลาพรุ่งนี้ ถูกต้องไหมคะ(khun jà khǎaw laa phrûng-níi thùuk-dtâwng mái khá)
John: ...which means "You are taking a day off tomorrow. Is that correct?"
John: Okay, what's the next word?
Anutida: ในห้อง(nai hâwng)
John: meaning "in your room."
John: This is a phrase.
Anutida: ใน(nai) is a preposition of location, meaning "in; inside; within" and is followed by ห้อง(hâawng).
John: This means "room." You can use other nouns in place of "room."
Anutida: That’s right. You can say ใน(nai) plus a location.
John: You can use this pattern when you are talking about the location of something.
Anutida: You can use this in both formal and informal situations.
John: Can you give us an example using this phrase?
Anutida: Sure. For example, you can say... ในห้องมีโซฟาสีแดง(nai hâwng mii soo-faa sǐi daaeng)
John: ... which means "There is a red couch in the room."
John: Okay, what's the next word?
Anutida: ที่เคาน์เตอร์ด้านหน้า(thîi kháo-dtôoe dâan-nâa)
John: meaning "at the front counter."
John: Anutida, what can you tell us about this phrase?
Anutida: First is ที่ (thîi), which means "at." It’s followed by เคาน์เตอร์ (kháo-dtôoe).
John: This means "counter." The last part of the phrase means "front."
Anutida: That’s ด้านหน้า(dâan nâa).
John: So the adjective goes after the noun, not in front of it.
Anutida: You can use this phrase in any formal or informal situation.
John: Can you give us an example using this word?
Anutida: Sure. For example, you can say... ที่เคาน์เตอร์ด้านหน้ามีโทรศัพท์อยู่(thîi kháo-dtôoe dâan-nâa mii thoo-rá-sàp yùu)
John: ... which means "There is a phone at the front counter."
John: Okay, now onto the lesson focus.

John: In this lesson, you'll learn about useful hotel phrases.
John: We’ll start at the beginning, by looking at some vocabulary that will be useful whenever you are dealing with hotels.
Anutida: Let’s start with the most obvious one - โรงแรม (roong-raaem)

Anutida: Yes, the receptionist said มีบัตรประชาชนไหมคะ(mii bàt bprà-chaa-chon mái khá)

John: "ID card"
Anutida: หนังสือเดินทาง (năng-sǔue dooen-thaan)

Anutida: แล้วพบกันใหม่ค่ะ (láaeo phóp gan mài khâ)
