Hi everyone! I’m Alisha.
Welcome to Conversational Phrases!
We’ve found that the best way to learn a language is to speak it from day one! And the best way to start speaking is to learn phrases that you’ll use in real conversations.
In this lesson, you’ll learn conversational phrases to comment on a joke. After watching this video, you’ll be able to compliment or criticize anyone on their sense of humor.
Now, let’s take a look at some conversational phrases!
Listen to the dialogue.
ทำไมหนังสือคณิตศาสตร์จึงเศร้าเพราะมันมีปัญหามากมาย (tham-mai năng-sǔue khá-nít-dtà-sàat jueng sâo phráw man mii bpan-hăa mâak maai)
ฮ่า ๆ คุณตลกมาก! (hâa hâa khun dtà-lòk mâak)
Once more with the English translation.
ทำไมหนังสือคณิตศาสตร์จึงเศร้าเพราะมันมีปัญหามากมาย (tham-mai năng-sǔue khá-nít-dtà-sàat jueng sâo phráw man mii bpan-hăa mâak maai)
“Why is the math book sad? Because it has so many problems.”
ฮ่า ๆ คุณตลกมาก! (hâa hâa khun dtà-lòk mâak)
“Haha, you're so funny!”
First of all, let’s listen to the joke again “Why is the math book sad? Because it has so many problems.”
That's:
ทำไมหนังสือคณิตศาสตร์จึงเศร้าเพราะมันมีปัญหามากมาย (tham-mai năng-sǔue khá-nít-dtà-sàat jueng sâo phráw man mii bpan-hăa mâak maai)
Listen to it again:
ทำไมหนังสือคณิตศาสตร์จึงเศร้าเพราะมันมีปัญหามากมาย, ทำไมหนังสือคณิตศาสตร์จึงเศร้าเพราะมันมีปัญหามากมาย (tham-mai năng-sǔue khá-nít-dtà-sàat jueng sâo phráw man mii bpan-hăa mâak maai, tham-mai năng-sǔue khá-nít-dtà-sàat jueng sâo phráw man mii bpan-hăa mâak maai)
Now, how do you react to a joke? First, you’ll need to learn how to say “haha” . That’s ฮ่า ๆ, ฮ่า ๆ (hâa hâa, hâa hâa)
Then, you’ll need to learn how to say “You're so [adjective].” The pattern is:
คุณ [adjective] มาก (khun [adjective] mâak)
“You're so [adjective].”
This Thai sentence literally translates as “You're [adjective] so.” But it means “You're so [adjective].”.
For example:
“Haha, you're so funny!”
ฮ่า ๆ คุณตลกมาก!, ฮ่า ๆ คุณตลกมาก! (hâa hâa khun dtà-lòk mâak, hâa hâa khun dtà-lòk mâak)
