| Ben: Hey Khru Pim, Suchada is talking about going to Paragon. It’s kind of become the cool place to go shopping these days, hasn’t it? |
| Pim: Yeah, I’d say it’s pretty popular. It’s also huge! I always get a little lost walking past all the restaurants on the first floor. |
| Ben: Would you say it’s the most popular mall in Bangkok? |
| Pim: I’m not sure about that. It’s definitely one of the newest and biggest, but you know, realistically, a lot of the shops are a bit more high-end than a lot of working class Thais can really afford. |
| Ben: So where else might they go? |
| Pim: Well, another huge mall right in the center of Bangkok is MBK Center. The place is always crowded, and you can find good deals there. In fact, it’s a really good place to pick up souvenirs. I always see lots of foreign tourists shopping there. And then there’s all those little shops in Siam Square where the university students like to go. |

| Pim: I sure did. Pretty much the whole area north of Chulalongkorn University is a shoppers paradise. |

| Pim: ไม่รู้เหมือนกัน (mâi rúu mǔuean-gan) |
| Ben: This phrase basically means “I don’t know either.” |
| Pim: Right. ไม่รู้ (mâi rúu) is “don’t know”, and เหมือนกัน (mǔuean-gan) is “also” or “likewise”. In the conversation, Sin asked Suchada what she was planning to buy when she goes shopping. And she replied with ไม่รู้เหมือนกัน (mâi rúu mǔuean-gan.) |
| Ben: So he didn’t know, otherwise he wouldn’t have asked, but she doesn’t know for herself either. Now the next expression is one that I hear a lot... |
| Pim: เฉย ๆ (chǒoei-chǒoei) |
| Ben: This is an adverb that can mean “simply” or “merely”. It can go at the end of a sentence to say that the action was done out simply or just for it’s own sake. |
| Pim: That’s right. For example, if I went to a store I might say... |
| จะไม่ซื้ออะไร มาดูเฉย ๆ |
| (jà mâi súue à-rai. maa duu chǒoei-chǒoei.) |
| Ben: "I'm not going to buy anything. I just came to look." |
| Pim: Sometimes you’ll also hear this used when someone wants to let you know that they aren’t really trying to be too nosey. Then they’ll say ถามเฉย ๆ (thǎam chǒoei-chǒoei.) |
| Ben: “I’m just asking”. And then what’s the final phrase we have? |
| Pim: ไม่ดีกว่า (mâi dii gwàa) |
| Ben: This is just used to say “No” or “That’s not good”. |
| Pim: The literal translation would be “not better”. But you can use ไม่ดีกว่า (mâi dii gwàa) to say something is a bad idea without actually comparing it to anything else. |
| Ben: Got it. Now let’s move on to the grammar section. |

| Pim: The verb เล่น (lên) means “to play”. It can follow many other verbs to form compounds that suggest the main verb is carried out playfully or not seriously. |
| Ben: That sounds pretty straightforward. Can you give us an example? |
| Pim: Sure. เดิน (dooen) is the verb “to walk”, so เดินเล่น (dooen-lên) means “to go for a stroll”. Take this sentence for instance...คุณอยากเดินเล่นที่หาดกันไหมคะ (khun yàak dooen-lên thîi hàat gan mǎi khá.) |
| Ben: “Do you want to go for a stroll on the beach together?” |
| Pim: Now for a different example, กิน (gin) is the verb “to eat”, so กินเล่น (gin-lên) means “to snack”. As in...ฉันไม่ได้กินข้าวกลางวัน แต่กินเล่นทั้งวัน (chǎn mâi dâi gin khâao glang-wan. dtàae gin-lên tháng wan.) |
| Ben: “I didn’t eat lunch, but I snacked all day long.” Do you have any more verbs made with เล่น lên for us to learn? |
| Pim: Alright. พูด (phûut) means “to speak”, so can you guess the meaning of พูดเล่น (phûut-lên)? |
| Ben: Hmm...speaking not seriously. It must be “joking around”. |
| Pim: That’s right. How about this one. นอน (naawn) means “to lie down”, so then what’s the meaning of นอนเล่น (naawn-lên)? |
| Ben: Would it be just “taking a nap”? |
| Pim: You got it! |
| Ben: OK. How about a little review of what we learned. Listeners, get ready to repeat after Khru Pim. First was “go for a stroll” |

When ไป and ก่อน are stict together like this is just to smooth and rymth the sentence, doesn't change the meaning and this is the natural speaking for Thai "คงจะหาอะไรแถวนั้นกินเล่นไปก่อน" and this"คงจะไปหาอะไรกินในแถวนั้นก่อน" could work too as ไป now used as "to go". Thanks. Yes, " ที่จะตอบความคิดเห็นของใคร" means " to answer anyone's opinions." I'm not sure where you get the sentence from, I could not find them here because the meaning might make more sense if you combine the sentence with the context. In my opinion the meaning is correct. In this sentence, "ไม่ดีพอ ที่จะตอบความคิดเห็นของใคร"
Being that ความคิดเห็น means opinion, I'm understanding this sentence to mean: Not good enough to answer anyone's opinions.
But that doesn't make sense. I believe I'm losing something in translation.

i cannot simply add the word "laew" to any word i wish... if i want it to meant "the previous or the last time".
It only works in combination with certain words like 'art-tit tii laew -- last week' and 'p tii laew -- last year '

For your second question, Yes, you can use ”ไม่ค่อย" when answer that question, but ไม่เก่งพอ/ ไม่ดีพอ "not good enough to...". So, My Thai is not good in response to someone’s comments. ภาษาไทยผมไม่เก่งพอ/ไม่ดีพอ ที่จะตอบความคิดเห็นของใคร.

ครั้ง "krang" mean "time
สุดท้าย "sut-taai" mean " last"
ครั้งสุดท้าย means " last time"
