| Pim: Yeah, it seems like he has a very ไม่เป็นไร (mâi bpen rai) attitude. |
| Ben: I think ไม่เป็นไร (mâi bpen rai) wins my award for favorite Thai phrase. |
| Pim: It’s good not just for communication, but also for mental health. I think taking a ไม่เป็นไร (mâi bpen rai) attitude can spare folks from a lot of unnecessary stress. |
| Ben: That’s a good point. There’s no use freaking out about things that you have no control over. |
| Pim: Right. You can be much happier if you’re able to say “Hey, no problem!” |

| VOCAB AND PHRASE USAGE |
| Ben: Let's have a closer look at the usage for some of the words and phrases from this lesson. |
| Pim: The first phrase is ใกล้จะเสร็จแล้ว (glâi jà sèt láaeo) |
| Ben: This means “almost finished”. |
| Pim: ใกล้ glâi means “near”, but here it’s used as “near in time”, not “near in distance”. And เสร็จ (sèt) is the verb “to finish” or “to be done”. |
| Ben: So the phrase translates literally as “near to being finished already”. What is the next phrase? |
| Pim: ในที่สุด (nai thîi sùt) |
| Ben: This means “finally” or “at last”. |
| Pim: That’s right. ใน nai is the preposition “in”, and ที่สุด (thîi sùt) can mean “final” or “ultimate”. |
| Ben: This prepositional phrase works best at the beginning of a sentence, as in the example from the conversation, which was... |
| Pim: ในที่สุดพวกคุณก็ทำสำเร็จจนได้ |

| Ben: “Finally, you’ve made it.” And the last phrase we have is... |
| Pim: ขอให้ทุกคนสู้กันต่อไป (khǎaw hâi thúk khon sûu gan dtàaw bpai) |
| Ben: This sentence was translated as “Everyone please keep trying your best together.” Let’s look at it in pieces. |
| Pim: ขอให้ (khǎaw hâi) means “Please let it be so”. Then ทุกคน (thúk khon) is the pronoun “everybody”, and สู้กัน (sûu gan) means “struggle together”. |
| Ben: สู้ (sûu) is kind of an interesting verb. |
| Pim: Yes, I agree. สู้ (sûu) can mean “to fight”, “to struggle”, or “to rally”, like a sports team trying to rally for a victory. Finally, ต่อไป (dtàaw bpai) means “continually” or “henceforth”. |
| Ben: So the whole phrase put together could also be understood as “Please let everyone rally together henceforth.” |
| Pim: Yeah, but doesn’t it sound better in Thai... ขอให้ทุกคนสู้กันต่อไป (khǎaw hâi thúk khon sûu gan dtàaw bpai) |
| Ben: You’re right. Now let’s move on to the grammar section. |

| Ben: The focus of this lesson is using จน jon to say “until”. |
| Pim: The word จน (jon) can act as either a preposition or a conjunction meaning “until”. It can appear at either the beginning or middle of a compound sentence. |
| Ben: That sounds simple enough. How did we hear it used in the conversation? |
| Pim: One sentence was...จนถึงตอนนี้ เราได้ภาพประกอบมาน้อยมากค่ะ |
| (jon thǔeng dtaawn-níi rao dâai phâap-bprà-gàawp maa náawy mâak khâ.) |
| Ben: “Until now we only have a few illustrations.” So in this sentence, จน (jon) is actually combined with ถึง thǔeng to make จนถึง (jon thǔeng.) |
| Pim: Yes, it is. But จนถึง (jon) thǔeng also just means “until”. It was also followed by ตอนนี้ (dtaawn-níi), meaning “now”, to give the whole prepositional phrase จนถึงตอนนี้ (jon thǔeng dtaawn-níi.) |
| Ben: “Up until now” Ok, well that was an example of จน jon at the beginning of a sentence. You said it can also go in the middle too. |
| Pim: Yes. Another sentence we had in the conversation was... |

| Pim: That’s right. จนกว่า (jon gwàa) means “before”, but it can also mean “until”. Then we had one final example from the conversation. Suchada said... |

| Ben: “Some people try too much until they forget to eat.” |
| Pim: And here once again, จน (jon) actually makes up half of an expression. In this case it’s the term จนกระทั่ง (jon grà-thâng), which also just means “until”. This time it’s a conjunction in the middle of the sentence. |
| Ben: OK, since it breaks up the sentence so nicely, let’s hear it once again in chunks. This time, listeners, please repeat after Khru Pim. First was “Some people try too much...” |
