| Hello, everyone! Welcome back to Thai Holiday Words, I’m Jay. Today we are going to do Chulalongkorn Day. Do you know what is Chulalongkorn Day? Tick-tock, tick-tock. Okay, I'll tell you. Chulalongkorn Day is the memorial of day of King Chulalongkorn, or Rama V, and it is on the 23rd of October of every year. It is also a national holiday. Now you know a bit about the day, ok, let's begin our lesson. |
| 1. วันปิยมหาราช (wan bpì-yá-má-hăa-râat) “Chulalongkorn Day” |

| "I don't have to work on Chulalongkorn Day because it is a national holiday." |
| For thai people, sometimes we do not call this day วันปิยมหาราช (wan bpì-yá-má-hăa-râat), because it is pretty long, isn’t it? Very long, if you count วันปิยมหาราช (wan bpì-yá-má-hăa-râat), five syllables. That's why we always shorten this day to วันปิยะ (wan bpì-yá). So you can refer to this day as วันปิยะ (wan bpì-yá), it’s easier to remember as well. |
