John: Slang with 3 Syllables or More
John: Hi, everyone, and welcome back to ThaiPod101.com. I'm John.
Jay: And I'm Jay!
John: This is Must-know Thai Slang Words and Phrases, Season 1, Lesson 25. In this lesson, you'll learn slang with 3 syllables or more.
John: Normally, Thai slang is very short with one or two syllables, but there are some with more syllables.
SLANG EXPRESSIONS
John: The expressions you will be learning in this lesson are...
Jay: วงจรอุบาทว์ (wong-jaawn u-bàat)
Jay: เต่าเรียกแม่ (dtào rîiak mâae)
Jay: เอาที่สบายใจ ( ao thîi sà-baai jai )
Jay: เชยระเบิด (chooei rá-bòoet)
John: Jay, what's our first expression?
Jay: วงจรอุบาทว์ (wong-jaawn u-bàat)
John: This literally means "vicious cycle," but when it's used as a slang expression, it also means "rat race or endless cycle."
Jay: [SLOW] วงจรอุบาทว์ [NORMAL] วงจรอุบาทว์
John: Listeners, please repeat.
Jay: วงจรอุบาทว์
[pause - 5 sec.]

Jay: [SLOW] เต่าเรียกแม่ [NORMAL] เต่าเรียกแม่
John: Listeners, please repeat.
Jay: เต่าเรียกแม่
[pause - 5 sec.]

John: Now, let's hear an example sentence.
Jay: [NORMAL] เขาทำงานช้าขนาดที่ว่าเต่าเรียกแม่ [SLOW] เขาทำงานช้าขนาดที่ว่าเต่าเรียกแม่
John: "He works very slowly."
Jay: [NORMAL] เขาทำงานช้าขนาดที่ว่าเต่าเรียกแม่
John: Okay, what's our next expression?
Jay: เอาที่สบายใจ ( ao thîi sà-baai jai )
John: This literally means "anything to make you feel happy," but when it's used as a slang expression, it means "Whatever works for you; whatever makes you happy; or do as you please."
Jay: [SLOW] เอาที่สบายใจ [NORMAL] เอาที่สบายใจ
John: Listeners, please repeat.
Jay: เอาที่สบายใจ
[pause - 5 sec.]
John: Use this expression when you want to be sarcastic. However, it depends on your tone as well.
John: Now, let's hear an example sentence.
Jay: [NORMAL] ฉันจะไม่ยุ่งด้วยแล้ว เอาที่สบายใจเลย [SLOW] ฉันจะไม่ยุ่งด้วยแล้ว เอาที่สบายใจเลย
John: "I will not get involved in this matter anymore. Do whatever makes you happy!"

John: Okay, what's the last expression?

John: This literally means "old-fashioned bomb," but when it's used as a slang expression, it means "outdated."
Jay: [SLOW] เชยระเบิด [NORMAL] เชยระเบิด
John: Listeners, please repeat.
Jay: เชยระเบิด
[pause - 5 sec.]

Jay: [NORMAL] เสื้อผ้าชุดนี้เชยระเบิดเลย [SLOW] เสื้อผ้าชุดนี้เชยระเบิดเลย
John: "This outfit is so outdated."
Jay: [NORMAL] เสื้อผ้าชุดนี้เชยระเบิดเลย

[pause - 5 sec.]
Jay: เต่าเรียกแม่
John: "very slow"
John: When something bad repeatedly happens again and again.
[pause - 5 sec.]
