Chigusa: So, Peter. Let’s talk about easy ways to learn language. I would feel GUILTY for wanting to learn the easy way.
Peter: Really? I can actually understand that but tell me a little more, why?
Chigusa: Well, aren’t you supposed to study hard and suffer for hours a day?
Peter: Well, Chigusa, there’s a time and place for that. Like if you’re studying to pass a test.
Chigusa: Yea, not for a test. If it was for a test, you’d probably forget it all the next day. But what if you just want to learn and understand the language...
Peter; In that case, your approach should be different. And there are 3 good reasons why you SHOULD start easy.
Chigusa: Really? What are they?
Peter: First, it’s better to start easy... because you simply won’t learn a language from trying to overwhelm yourself. Think about the gym.
Chigusa: Ok.
Peter: The gym is a great example because... if you never worked out before, you can’t simply lift 100 pounds on day 1... no matter how much you wish for it. And again, if you’re really strong, make that number 100 - 500. Same with language. You can’t spend 2 hours cramming... And even if you can, you simply won’t remember anything in the long run. The brain doesn’t work that way.
Chigusa: Right.
Peter: So with the gym you start with maybe 5 pounds. You move your way up 10, 15, 20. And soon enough, you reach your goal. With language learning, if you’re taking our lessons, you learn a quick conversation today, another one tomorrow...
Chigusa: And day after day, you start speaking more and more of the language.
Peter: Exactly. And without stress. Number Two: Starting easy helps you build a strong routine.
Chigusa: Yeah, you need a good routine to succeed.
Peter: Yeah, this one’s better than number one. So, it’s easy to learn for 10 or 15 minutes a day... and it’s easy to maintain that. So what happens is that, you’ll maintain that in the long run, you’ll learn a lot more of the language over time....Again learning a language, getting a great body, saving money, all these things are functions of time. You have to put in the time. And then, you’ll succeed with your goal.
Chigusa: And you can also increase your time to 30 minutes or an hour... when you get used to it.
Peter: Exactly. But from the start, if you try to put in 2 or 3 hours a day… I mean, it’s like putting 70% of your money into savings when you need a portion of that for your rent, your food, and living a good life - you’re going to suffer and it’s not going to be fun. So, Chigusa, can you really sit down to study for 2 or 3 hours a day?
Chigusa: I can’t. Not without completely changing my life around.
Peter: Some people are at the point in their life where they can do this but for most of us, it’s going to be tough to carve out that time. We have responsibilities and obligations. So, it’s better to start small and build the habit up. And who knows, later on you could get to that point where you’re functioning in the language, enjoying Netflix, enjoying actually doing things in that language.
Chigusa: But it doesn’t happen overnight.
Peter: Exactly. So, listeners, now that you know why it’s okay to learn the easy way.
Chigusa: Here are 5 easy ways you can learn with our program...
Peter: Whether you’re learning at home, or on your commute.
Chigusa: Number 1: Follow our Recommended Learning Pathway
Peter: The challenge with learning a language is that there are a housand paths you could go down. Learning words. Grammar. Adjectives. Reading. Writing. Books. Apps. Courses.
Chigusa: But...what if you had one simple path to follow?
Peter: With our recommended pathways, you get just that: a pathway of lessons that are right for your learning level.
Chigusa: Just follow the pathway... take the lessons...
Peter: And you’ll never worry about where to start, what to learn next, and what to focus on. It’s all in there.
Chigusa: Speaking of lessons... Number 2: Take our Audio and Video Lessons
Peter: Listening to audio and watching video lessons is an easy way to consume language...
Chigusa: And it’s something you can do while you’re walking or commuting to work... where you can’t pull out a textbook.
Peter: Exactly. Also, most of our lessons are 5 minutes on average. So you don’t spend much time.
Chigusa: Just press play on a lesson. You’ll learn a conversation, and all of the words and grammar rules inside that conversation.
Peter: You can even learn on our app, if you prefer using your smartphone.
Chigusa: Number three: Download the lesson dialogs and immerse yourself
Peter: With every audio lesson, you get a dialog track - which gives you just the conversation of the lesson.
Chigusa: So, when you finish the lesson, download the track.
Peter: These tracks are just 5 to 20 seconds long.
Chigusa: Make a playlist of all of them, and you can easily listen through and review. You can also use them to immerse yourself in the language.
Peter: Number four: The Word of the Day.
Chigusa: This learning tool will take you a minute or less.
Peter: So, sign up for our free word of the day email lessons and learn a new word every day.
Chigusa: I like this method myself.
Peter: Really, why?
Chigusa: Because it helps me stick with learning. If I can check the word, it means I can stick with at least ONE routine. I know I’ll be okay. I know that my day didn’t go to waste.
Peter: That’s a great point, Chigusa.
Chigusa: Okay, Number Five: Print Out Our Lessons as Physical Study Material
Peter: Listeners, if you have the learning material sitting right in front of you...
Chigusa: ...it’s a lot easier to glance through and start learning.
Peter: So, with our Wordbank study tool, you can create your own word and phrase lists.
Chigusa: And, you can print them out.
Peter: You also can print out the lesson notes...
Chigusa: You’ll find these in every audio and video lesson.
Peter: You can print out our extensive reading books...
Chigusa: ...which help you read faster. You’ll find these in the Lesson Library.
Peter: And you can print our conversation cheat sheets that we give away for free.
Chigusa: Oh, Peter, we promised to give them our latest conversation cheat sheet, right?
Peter: Yes, we did. Listeners, if you want access, leave us a comment on the site...
