Can you define รถสาย in the context that it is being used in the sentence: "รถสายนี้ไปสยามเซ็นเตอร์หรือเปล่าครับ"

One of my few criticism of the "Absolute Beginner" coursework is the almost obsessive and redundant use of the terms "คะ" and "ครับ".

Here is a 'typical' dialogue in this section which is the repetition of the same sentence with feminine ending and one with a masculine ending.

รถสายไหนไปสยามเซ็นเตอร์ คะ

รถสายไหนไปสยามเซ็นเตอร์ ครับ

And then to make it even more mind-numbing in repetitiveness, "คะ' and "ครับ" show up in the 'Vocabulary' section of the lesson. A few hundred lessons with this type of repetitiveness doesn't add anything to the content of the Thai101 program. If fact it's a distraction after awhile.

What's worst, is repeating 'คะ' and 'ครับ' over and over and over and over again - needlessly - and then completely bypassing vocabulary that is actually new! Like the term 'รถสาย' or 'รถ' and 'สาย' which should be defined independently within the 'Vocabulary' section.

Anyway, the over-emphasis of 'คะ' and 'ครับ' while completely overlooking newly introduced vocabulary really is a valid criticism of the program. Again, one of my few criticisms.

By the way, if a Thai person replies to this comment, please understand that I understand the cultural aversion that Thai people have toward criticism. This is nothing personal. If Innovative does a version update to their Thai language program, then addressing this needless repetitiveness of 'คะ' and 'ครับ' should be at the top of the course designer's list. Trust me, it detracts and obfuscates; it adds virtually nothing that hasn't been covered, literally, hundreds of times before.

Other than that, I love your program. Overall, it's great! ❤️️

Many thanks for the explanation Parisa.

This is very helpful because I'm most likely to be riding the bus between cities, so now I'll know how to ask for details of the correct bus; “rót bprà-jam-thaang”

Hi Gary,

I'm so sorry about my misunderstanding. Here is the explanation for those tree words:

รถบัส "rót-bát " is a normal bus that you see on the street like "tour bus, personal bus and etc..."

รถประจำทาง "rót bprà-jam-thaang " is the transportation between one city to another cities.

รถเมล์ "rót-mee" is the transportation inside the city.

Hope you that helps.

Have a nice day.

I'm confused.

The word for bus does not appear in the vocabulary.

When I looked in the dictionary there were three different words for bus and the one used in this lesson doesn't appear.

Can you explain please?

Hello คุณ ส้มโอ

Thank you very much for your comment. We glad that you find our lessons are useful for you. For your question, Thank you very much for your comment. We're so glad that you find our lesson is useful for you. For your question, "ท่าอากาศยาน" is more formal than "สนามบิน". So in real life conversation we will use the word "สนามบิน" more often. Hope that help.

Have a good day.

Hi Deryck,

Thank you very much for you comment. For your questions, "รถบัส" is a transport between one city to another city. "รถเมล์" is a transport that use inside the city. For colloquial we can just say "รถ", like in the lesson "รถสายไหนไปสยามเซนเตอร์". "เส้นทาง" is "route" but สาย can be the classifier to talk about "this route" or "a route" etc. "กำลัง" shows present continuous tense, but it is not always needed. For example you wouldn't ask "where are you going?" With กำลังไปไหน, instead just use ไปไหน. Hope that help.

Have a nice day.
