Hello Oliver,

Thank you. ตำรวจ dtam-rùuat the second syllabel low tone, yes because ต Low class from the first syllable is effected. So the second syllable take tone rule of middle class consonant applied. Hope that helps. Please let me know if you have any future questions. I will be glad to help.

Have a good day.

Why is in ตำรวจ dtam-rùuat the second syllabel low tone? It's the low consonant ร followed by a dead-long ending วจ making it a falling tone. Or is ต implying a mid-tone on ร?

Wish the English, Romanization and character was all visible at same time - need to toggle back and forth to make any sense.

Thanks again, Parisa. Hidden ห was quite new to me.

Hello Natsumi,

There are also many cases where hɔ̌ɔ hìip – ห – is hidden in a syllable. There are many situations in which hɔ̌ɔ hìip is not written out, but is a part of the syllable and does affect that syllable’s pronunciation. How are you supposed to know when this occurs? It’s simple, just memorize every single Thai word and you’ll be all set! But seriously, there is no way to know other than becoming more familiar with Thai and learning which words have it and which don’t. Here is an explanation of the word : ตำรวจ = ตำ-หรวจ and อร่อย = อะ-หร่อย

Have a nice day.

Hello,

I have a question about the tone of the word tdam-ruuat.

Why ruuat has low tone with the low class consonant ร with dead ending?

Is there any regulation of tones with this pattern?

Regards, Natsumi

Hi Jan,

Thank you for your question.

As you said, it has to spell “ปฏิบัติ” not "ปฎิบัติ”. The difference between this 2 words is the letter "ฎ" and "ฏ", they almost look the same but their tail are a little bit different.

Thank you for letting us know, we will fix it as soon as possible

Have a nice day.

Since I always try to translate the sentences of the lesson notes I do find your spelling errors. In this case the spelling of ปฎิบัติ should be ปฏิบัติ. Well, one really can't see the difference.
