Hello Natsumi,

There are also many cases where hɔ̌ɔ hìip – ห – is hidden in a syllable. There are many situations in which hɔ̌ɔ hìip is not written out, but is a part of the syllable and does affect that syllable’s pronunciation. How are you supposed to know when this occurs? It’s simple, just memorize every single Thai word and you’ll be all set! But seriously, there is no way to know other than becoming more familiar with Thai and learning which words have it and which don’t. Here is an explanation of the word : ตำรวจ = ตำ-หรวจ and อร่อย = อะ-หร่อย

Have a nice day.

Hello,

I have a question about the tone of อร่อย.

Is it the combination of อ + ร่อย , isn't it?

If so, why has ร่อย low tone although low class consonant with live ending and mai-eek?

Regards, Natsumi

Very good explanation of the difference between 'far' and 'near' -- a common mispronunciation issue with non Thai speakers, as well as the 'beautiful' and 'bad luck' difference.

Thank you.
