| In Thai, Cambodia is called “กัมพูชา” (Kampucha) — but you’ll also hear the word “เขมร” (Khmer) used too. So, what’s the difference? |
| The word “เขมร” (Khmer) refers to the ethnic group, language, and ancient culture — like the Khmer Empire, which built Angkor Wat. |
| So when Thai people say “Khmer,” they usually mean Khmer people, Khmer language, or Khmer art — things rooted in the cultural identity. |
| But “กัมพูชา” (Kampucha) is the formal name of the country in Thai — just like how we say “Cambodia” in English. |

| Did you know that the word พม่า in Thai comes from the word “Bamar.” a dominant ethnic group in the country. |
| Even though the country has changed its name from Burma to Myanmar, in order to include all ethnic groups, in the Thai language, the country is still called "พม่า" (Pamá). |

| In Thai, you’ll often hear two names for the country next door: |
| “ลาว” (Lao) and “สปป.ลาว” (S-P-P Lao) — but what’s the difference? |
| “ลาว” is the short, everyday name — just like we say “Lao food” or “Lao friends.” |
| But the full name is “สาธารณรัฐประชาธิปไตยประชาชนลาว” or สปป.ลาว for short (in English: Lao People's Democratic Republic, or Lao PDR for short.) |
| Nowadays, people use the word สปป ลาว more often to refer to Lao country and people, as it feels more respectful as well. |

| In Thai, how do we say “America”? |
| Well… there’s more than one way! |
| The official name is “สหรัฐอเมริกา” — |
| It means “United States of America” and you’ll see it in the news or formal writing. |
| But in everyday talk, most Thai people just say “อเมริกา” |
| It’s short, simple, and sounds just like “America.” |
| And if you’re being super casual. |
| You might or hear people say “เมกา” which is a super casual slang version. |

| Did you know that Thailand and India share deep cultural roots especially through Buddhism, language, and mythology? |
| For example, many Thai words come from ancient Sanskrit and Pali, which started in India. For example, ครู or Teacher in English is from the word Guru which is Pali. Or even the word “สวัสดี” is from a Sanskrit word, Svasti, meaning well-being or blessing. |

| Thailand was originally called Siam. In 1939, the country changed its name to Thailand. After briefly going back to Siam, it finally settled on Thailand again in 1948. The changes were made to highlight Thai identity and unity. |
