| Ja: Hey Khru Jing, is there a certain tradition in Thailand for marriage proposals? |
| Jing: มีค่ะ ตามประเพณี ฝ่ายชายจะพาพ่อแม่มาพบกับพ่อแม่ของฝ่ายหญิง แล้วก็ทำการเจรจาสู่ขอกับพ่อแม่ของฝ่ายหญิงค่ะ |
| Ja: Wait a minute, does the girl have any say in the matter? |
| Jing: Of course. Her parents will ask if the proposal is OK, and they will accept the proposal only if she says yes. จากนั้นพ่อกับแม่ฝ่ายหญิงก็จะบอกฝ่ายชายว่าต้องการ สินสอดเท่าไหร่ |
| Ja: What's the “สินสอด”? |

| Ja: So it's like a dowry? |
| Jing: It's not exactly the same. In some cultures a dowry is given by the wife's family. But the สินสอด in Thailand is paid by the husband. |

| Ja: This means "later on" or "lately". |

| Ja: This phrase is used to indicate a period of time that is relatively recent, or that is after the initial period, such as after the first year of a marriage. |

| Jing: ใช่ค่ะ กลุ่มคำว่า “อะไรปิดบัง” หมายความว่า "something hidden". But we can use it more like a regular verb by switching the word order to “ปิดบังอะไร”. |
| Ja: OK, so “ปิดบังอะไร” means "to conceal something". Is that correct? |
