Jay: Hi guys, I am Jay and today we are going to do top 25 Thai nouns. Letโ€™s begin.
เธซเน‰เธญเธ‡เธ™เน‰เธณ (hวŽawng-nรกam) - โ€œtoiletโ€. You always want to go to toilet right? I mean, yeah so itโ€™s very useful word like where is the toilet? You just ask เธซเน‰เธญเธ‡เธ™เน‰เธณเธญเธขเธนเนˆเน„เธซเธ™เธ„เธฐ (haฬ‚wng-nรกam yuฬ€u nฤƒi khรก) for girls and เธซเน‰เธญเธ‡เธ™เน‰เธณเธญเธขเธนเนˆเน„เธซเธ™เธ„เธฃเธฑเธš (haฬ‚wng-nรกam yuฬ€u nฤƒi khrรกp) for guys.
เนเธ—เน‡เธเธ‹เธตเนˆ (thรกek-siฬ‚i) Taxi. See like the same word, just like different accent and if you go to Bangkok, you can find lot of taxi like taxi in Thailand is everywhere and itโ€™s very cheap.
เธชเธ™เธฒเธกเธšเธดเธ™ (sร -nฤƒam-bin) Airport เธšเธดเธ™ (bin) actually means flying. So if you remember that like เน€เธ„เธฃเธทเนˆเธญเธ‡เธšเธดเธ™ (khruฬ‚ueang-bin) is airplane and เธชเธ™เธฒเธกเธšเธดเธ™ (sร -nฤƒam bin) is airport.
เธฃเธ–เน€เธกเธฅเนŒ (rรณt mee) Bus. In Thailand, we have lot of buses but some are not air-coned so like for me, I donโ€™t like taking bus in Thailand, itโ€™s very hot.
เธ›เน‰เธฒเธขเธฃเธ–เน€เธกเธฅเนŒ (bpรขai rรณt mee) Bus stop เธ›เน‰เธฒเธข (bpรขai) actually means board or like signboard. So when you combine both words together, it becomes เธ›เน‰เธฒเธขเธฃเธ–เน€เธกเธฅเนŒ (bpรขai rรณt mee) bus stop เธ›เน‰เธฒเธขเธฃเธ–เน€เธกเธฅเนŒเธญเธขเธนเนˆเธ—เธตเนˆเน„เธซเธ™ (bpรขai rรณt mee yuฬ€u thiฬ‚i-nฤƒi) Where is the bus stop?
เธ•เธธเนŠเธเธ•เธธเนŠเธ (dtรบk-dtรบk) Motor rickshaw taxi. I think if you want to visit Thailand, you want to try this one out. เธ•เธธเนŠเธเธ•เธธเนŠเธ (dtรบk-dtรบk) cute isnโ€™t it, the sound เธ•เธธเนŠเธเธ•เธธเนŠเธ (dtรบk-dtรบk) itโ€™s like a three-wheel taxi.
เธชเธญเธ‡เนเธ–เธง (saฬŒawng-thฤƒeo) Truck, taxi. Itโ€™s not truck and taxi, itโ€™s actually this taxi that looks like a truck. You donโ€™t normally see it nowadays. Itโ€™s very convenient though.
เธฃเธ–เน„เธŸ (rรณt fai) Train. If you have noticed so far, we have the word เธฃเธ– (rรณt) in front of every word. The word เธฃเธ– (rรณt) actually means vehicle or car. So when you put that like in front, we know that you are talking about some vehicle เธ‰เธฑเธ™เน€เธ”เธดเธ™เธ—เธฒเธ‡เน‚เธ”เธขเธฃเธ–เน„เธŸ (chฤƒn dooen-thaang dooi rรณt fai) I travel by train
เน€เธฃเธทเธญ (ruuea) boat, strange as it sounds but we do travel by boats in Bangkok, yes we do. Itโ€™s one of the transportation. popular transportation in Bangkok because Bangkok is divided by a big river called เน€เธˆเน‰เธฒเธžเธฃเธฐเธขเธฒ (jรขao-phrรก-yaa). So sometimes they have to cross the river. So if you want to say, I travel by boat, you can say เธ‰เธฑเธ™เน€เธ”เธดเธ™เธ—เธฒเธ‡เน‚เธ”เธขเน€เธฃเธทเธญ (chฤƒn dooen-thaang dooi ruuea)
เธกเธญเน€เธ•เธญเธฃเนŒเน„เธ‹เธ„เนŒ (maaw-dtoฬ‚oe-sai) Motorcycle. You will see a lot of motorcycles in Thailand. There are a lot, itโ€™s really a lot. Thatโ€™s why sometimes when you cross the road, itโ€™s a bit dangerous because you might bump into some motorcycles there. I ride a motorcycle. In Thai, you can say เธ‰เธฑเธ™เธ‚เธฑเธšเธฃเธ–เธกเธญเน€เธ•เธญเธฃเนŒเน„เธ‹เธ„เนŒ (chฤƒn khร p rรณt maaw-dtoฬ‚oe-sai)
เธชเธฒเธกเธต (sฤƒa-mii) Husband. We use that in writing speaking sometimes in a formal situations. So normally like in Thailand, if you want to refer to your boyfriend, girlfriend, husband or wife, you just say เนเธŸเธ™ (faaen) like เธ™เธตเนˆเธ„เธทเธญเนเธŸเธ™เธ‚เธญเธ‡เธ‰เธฑเธ™ (niฬ‚i khuue faaen khaฬŒawng chฤƒn) people that you are in relationship with.
เธญเธฒเธซเธฒเธฃ (aa-hฤƒan) Food เธญเธฑเธ™เธ™เธตเน‰เธญเธฒเธซเธฒเธฃเธญเธฐเน„เธฃ (an-niฬi aa-hฤƒan a-rai) เธญเธฑเธ™เธ™เธตเน‰ (an-niฬi) This is เธญเธฒเธซเธฒเธฃ (aa-hฤƒan) food เธญเธฐเน„เธฃ (a-rai) what, what kind of food is this or maybe you want to ask, if this food is spicy เธญเธฒเธซเธฒเธฃเธ™เธตเน‰เน€เธœเน‡เธ”เน„เธซเธก (aa-hฤƒan niฬi phรจt mรกai) Is this food spicy?
เน€เธ„เธฃเธทเนˆเธญเธ‡เธ”เธทเนˆเธก (khruฬ‚ueang-duฬ€uem) Drink เน€เธ„เธฃเธทเนˆเธญเธ‡เธ”เธทเนˆเธก (khruฬ‚ueang-duฬ€uem) means drink. If you want to say I want to order a drink, you can say เธ‰เธฑเธ™เธญเธขเธฒเธเธชเธฑเนˆเธ‡เน€เธ„เธฃเธทเนˆเธญเธ‡เธ”เธทเนˆเธก (chฤƒn yร ak sร ng khruฬ‚ueang-duฬ€uem) So my favorite Thai drink so far is Thai ice tea. Have you tried it? You should you know because like itโ€™s one of the best.
เธ™เน‰เธณ (nรกam) water . If you want to say, I want to drink water which you will have to say quite often if you are going to Thailand because itโ€™s very hot เธ‰เธฑเธ™เธญเธขเธฒเธเธ”เธทเนˆเธกเธ™เน‰เธณ (chฤƒn yร ak duฬ€uem nรกam) I want to drink water.
เธซเน‰เธฒเธ‡ (hรขang) Department store, if you want to say, I want to go shopping at a department store, you can say เธ‰เธฑเธ™เธญเธขเธฒเธเน„เธ›เธŠเธญเธ›เธ›เธดเธ‡เธ—เธตเนˆเธซเน‰เธฒเธ‡ (chฤƒn yร ak bpai chaฬwp-bpรฎng thiฬ‚i hรขang) I always go to a department store because like there is a free air con there.
เน‚เธˆเธฃ (joon) Thief. For example, your mobile phone got stolen and you want to explain that your mobile phone got stolen by a thief, you can say เธกเธทเธญเธ–เธทเธญเธ‚เธญเธ‡เธ‰เธฑเธ™เน‚เธ”เธ™เน‚เธˆเธฃเธ‚เน‚เธกเธขเน„เธ› (muue-thuue khaฬŒawng chฤƒn doon joon khร -mooi bpai) My phone got stolen by a thief.
เธ•เธณเธฃเธงเธˆ (dtam-rรนuat) Police. So when we have a thief, we have a police. The sentence I want to call police in Thai is เธ‰เธฑเธ™เธญเธขเธฒเธเน‚เธ—เธฃเธซเธฒเธ•เธณเธฃเธงเธˆ (chฤƒn yร ak thoo hฤƒa dtam-rรนuat) I want to call police and if you want to call police in Thailand, you just dial this number 191. Ring, ringโ€ฆ
เน‚เธฃเธ‡เนเธฃเธก (roong-raaem) Hotel I want to reserve a room at the hotel. You can say เธ‰เธฑเธ™เธญเธขเธฒเธเธˆเธญเธ‡เธซเน‰เธญเธ‡เธ—เธตเนˆเน‚เธฃเธ‡เนเธฃเธก (chฤƒn yร ak jaawng haฬ‚wng thii roong-raaem)
เธšเน‰เธฒเธ™ (bรขan) Home เธšเน‰เธฒเธ™ (bรขan) Home or house. Me, I am living with my family in a house. I donโ€™t really have to anything to say about house. Thereโ€™s nothing to talk about house.
เธ„เธฃเธญเธšเธ„เธฃเธฑเธง (khraฬ‚awp-khruua) Family. A nomal, typical traditional Thai families, they live like ten people in a house like grandparents, parents, kids, เธ„เธฃเธญเธšเธ„เธฃเธฑเธงเธ‚เธญเธ‡เธ‰เธฑเธ™เธกเธตเธชเธตเนˆเธ„เธ™ (khraฬ‚awp-khruua khaฬŒawng chฤƒn mii siฬ€i khon) There are four people in my family.
เธžเนˆเธญ (phaฬ‚aw) Father. Father in Thai is เธžเนˆเธญ (phaฬ‚aw). So if you want to make it more polite and more formal like when you are writing or like you want to address someoneโ€™s father in a polite way, you say เธ„เธธเธ“เธžเนˆเธญ (khun phaฬ‚aw)
mother เธ„เธธเธ“เนเธกเนˆ (khun mรขae) You put the word เธ„เธธเธ“ (khun) in front of the word (เธžเนˆเธญ) and (เนเธกเนˆ) to make it โ€“ it sounds more polite เธ„เธธเธ“เนเธกเนˆเธ‚เธญเธ‡เธ„เธธเธ“เธŠเธทเนˆเธญเธญเธฐเน„เธฃ (khun mรขae khaฬŒawng khun chuฬ‚ue a-rai) What is your motherโ€™s name? Easy isnโ€™t it? So yeah,
เธฅเธนเธ (luฬ‚uk) daughter or son. So if you want to say daughter, you can say เธฅเธนเธเธชเธฒเธง (luฬ‚uk sฤƒao) เธชเธฒเธง means like female and for son, you can say เธฅเธนเธเธŠเธฒเธข (luฬ‚uk chaai) like male. So เธฅเธนเธ (luฬ‚uk) means kids like your kids. Daughter เธฅเธนเธเธชเธฒเธง (luฬ‚uk sฤƒao) and son เธฅเธนเธเธŠเธฒเธข (luฬ‚uk chaai)
เธžเธตเนˆ (phiฬ‚i) Older brother or sister. So if you want to be specific, you want to say that this is my older brother, you say เธžเธตเนˆเธŠเธฒเธข (phiฬ‚i chaai) and older sister, you say เธžเธตเนˆเธชเธฒเธง (phiฬ‚i sฤƒao). For someone like me, I am Jay and if I am older than you, regardless that I am your family member or not, you call the person เธžเธตเนˆเน€เธˆ (phiฬ‚i jee) to give respect to the person that the person is older than you.
เธ™เน‰เธญเธ‡ (naฬawng) younger brother or sister. If you want to refer to younger brother, it is เธ™เน‰เธญเธ‡เธŠเธฒเธข (naฬawng chaai) and younger sister เธ™เน‰เธญเธ‡เธชเธฒเธง (naฬawng sฤƒao). If you find someone thatโ€™s younger than you, you say เธ™เน‰เธญเธ‡ (naฬawng). So if you are older than me, I am Jay right, you call me เธ™เน‰เธญเธ‡เน€เธˆ (naฬawng jee). It kind of gives like this cute like feeling of adorable like the person like you are saying this to me, I will feel like oh you are very nice to say this. done. Okay we are done for today.
